Convicted Felon Trump Declares Big Win

SCOTUS said that presidents have immunity for official acts but not all acts are official, and lower courts must decide which acts qualify for each.

Convicted Felon Trump declared the decision a big win and makes Jack Smith's case null and void. In fact, it doesn't because the SCOTUS decision sends the case back to the same court that ruled he has no immunity, as it relates to the Jan 6th attempted coup.

No doubt its a big win for Trump, but, also, when you add it to this week's decision getting rid of Chevron Deference, its a huge shift in Constitutional law.

@MistyCee That old slippery slope to Oligarchy is getting pretty steep...😷

@MistyCee yes, very, very discouraging, particularly after hearing the comments in support of the majority vote by the justices. Thomas is just an angry mad man, but the other 3 only reason to do what they did is to support the man who placed them in their seats!
@whowasthatmaskedman It really makes wonder if some of those folks aren't aiming for anarchy.

On the one hand, you take a huge chunk out of Executive authority to delegate, while at the same time, you create a unitary executive above the judicial branch. So much for Roberts being an insitutionalist.,

@MistyCee does the word hypocrisy come to mind?

@MistyCee I disagree on the Anarchy part. This is a highly organised long game to remove the expensive impediment of the democratic process to the running of the nation. The capital will simply make a call and it happens. Screw the Constitution..And to be clear, I am no preacher for Democracy. Just get the job done in the most effective way.. And that isnt the current system..😷

@MistyCee The ruling makes a distinction between official conduct of a president and the actions of a private citizen.

The liberal wing's dissent, indicates they see this is as en expansion of presidential power.

I posted last week about the decision to toss out Chevron Deference.

Roberts seems to have switched camps, and the stakes cannot be higher for the upcoming elections.

The only solution to stop the side down the slippery slope, is a Democrat win in both houses and the Presidency, paving the way to a stacking of SCOTUS. But that's not gong to happen if the President is on top of the Democrat ticket.
@whowasthatmaskedman I hear you, but how stable is a one man dictatorship with an old guy in charge, no plan for succession, or even a plan to re-elect a new dictator every few years?

Even assuming there's an elite that figured out this arrangement is cheaper than letting the masses think they have a say and a stake, it seems like a bad plan to me.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@MistyCee believe me he has a plan! He wants the succession to be along his family line!

@MistyCee I completely agree.. Now finish that thought. This is just about how we get from here, to there. I am not advocating the Chinese model here. But in effect the money that controls America now will simply have a more direct imput and hold the reins tighter, without all this protest BS and under the table money. On the upside, Lobbyists will disappear.. Possibly literally..😷
