Woman Shoots 13-Year-Old Girl Attempting to Steal Her SUV in Chicago

A concerning incident on Chicago’s South Side has spotlighted the perilous paths some youths are taking, as a 13-year-old girl was shot as her and a 14-year-old boy were attempting to steal an SUV. The shooting occurred around 7:49 a.m. on Tuesday in the 8200-block of South Commercial Avenue, according to Chicago Police.

Reports from the scene indicate that the teenagers were confronted by the vehicle’s owner, a woman who fired her gun at the youths as they tried to take her SUV. The 13-year-old girl sustained a gunshot wound to the right side of her body and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

Both the girl and the 14-year-old boy have been charged with attempted theft in connection with the incident.

@beermeplease The woman who shot the gun could be charged. Unless she believed her life was in imminent danger or was acting in self defense of her life, she could be charged with attempted murder; but not enough information to make a determination.

@JudyS i know in canada it is very difficult to prove your life was in danger in a situation like that...that wouldn't fly in a canadian court. it sounds like she approached the kids with a gun. maybe the kids produced a weapon too making it justified on her part. if that was the case that would certainly never happen in canada. but if it did and i had a gun and some punk was trying to steal my car then i would show my weapon telling them to piss off...if they tried to shoot me then bang...but like i said...that would almost never happen in canada

@JimBeam Much different, Texas is Constitutional carry and stand your ground, much like where I currently live in iowa, but in Illinois, they banned the EVIL Ruger 10/22 🙄

@JimBeam My Beretta 92FS 9mm and Bersa Thunder .380ACP semiautomatic pistols are always within reach, and my Ruger 10/22 .22LR semiautomatic rifle is easily accessable as well.
