What's Happened to Russia in Ukraine Is What Would Have Happened to Nazi Germany in 1938-39 Had the Allies Let Czechoslovakia Defend Itself

Prime Ministers Neville Chamberlain (U.K.) and Édouard Daladier (France) foolishly thought that if they forced Czechoslovakia to turn over the Sudetenland to Nazi Germany that they could bide time to bolster their national defenses for an eventual war with the Germans.

But instead, Germany would get ALL of Czechoslovakia without firing a shot, without losing a single tank, without losing a single aircraft. And not only did they get the important Škoda Works munition factories (Czechoslovakia was the 7th largest arms producer in the world at the time), but the German defense industry was outpacing that of the British and French and Czechoslovakia's armed forces and equipment became part of the Nazi war machine. Furthermore, a southern flank of attack was now possible against Poland.

But if the Germans had to invade Czechoslovakia, subduing that nation might have taken upwards of a year, with constant guerilla warfare and the need for a larger occupation force. Any invasion of Poland most certainly would not have taken place in 1939 and would have most likely been pushed back to the summer of 1940 at the earliest. There might not have been a Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, not in 1939 anyway, since the Germans would have been in no position to invade and split up Poland with the Soviets at that time.

With Germany suffering combat losses for up to a year, the Allies would have been in a far better position to take on Germany in mid or late 1940.

It's history.

And, as George Santayana said:

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
Morvoren · F
@beckyromero Yeah based in your post you either didn’t read it or didn’t remember it.

What's going on in Ukraine right now is what would have went on in 1938 had the Allies encouraged (and helped) Czechoslovakia to defend itself.

Every Russian solider, every Russian aircraft, every Russian tank and artillary piece is one less than we'll have to destroy when Putin continues in his adventures should he defeat Ukraine.
Morvoren · F
@beckyromero Only the Czechs were occupied and defeated a year after Sudetenland was annexed. So no it’s not the same as the Ukraine.

OMG! Another graduate of Trump University.

The British and French FORCED the Czechoslovakia to surrender the Sudentenland to Nazi Germany WITHOUT a fight in September 1938. Representatives of the Czechoslovakia government weren't even allowed to attend the conference!

Then the Germans then occupied the rest of the country in March 1939.

I suggest you read the title of the post again:

Czechs were invaded a year after they lost Sudentenland

Surrendering to occupation is not the same as contesting an invader. The Czechs surrendered the rest of their nation to Nazi Germany.

The Munich Agreement was in September 1938 and the Sudetenland was surrendered without resistance.

The Nazi occupation of the rest of the country took place on March 15, 1939, after Hitler met with Czechoslovak president Emil Hácha in Berlin at 1:30 am and told him that if he didn't IMMEDIATELY surrender his country to the Nazis an invasion would take place. Hermann Göring then informed Hácha that Prague would be bombed into submission with two hours. Hácha gave in.

Just as they would do later in Poland, the Nazis began their Generalplan Ost, "Master Plan for the East," to eradicate Czech nationality through assimilation, the deportation of Jews and others to concentration camps and the extermination of the Czech intelligentsia.
