Sadiq Khan wins a historic third-term as London mayor

Congratulations to him! London is one of the world's greatest cities, and having a liberal, progressive, environmentally conscious mayor in charge is clearly paying dividends as his vote share has increased.

Here's to another 4 years 😊 🌍🌿🏳️‍🌈

We all love congestion charges, let’s have more of them. I don’t think😞

@SW-User Oh I don't think there will be any more. But the ULez and LTNs are clearly not an issue to the people actually living there, and LTNs are actually very popular.
@SW-User well I do! Why drive in London? Insane when public transport is so good.

@SW-User ULEZ is a very popular policy in a youthful city with a world class mass transit system.
@SW-User Our LTM was stopped because the extra traffic it made
@V00doo Sounds like it was badly designed!

@SunshineGirl From a pollution point of view I agree with you, and the reduction of deaths from asthma or brain damage s paramount. So in London it may well work. There is a robust public transport system.

In other places it would be a disaster though, where public transport barely exists.

Brighton is a nightmare to park in. My friends who live there find it so. And you may as well throw £20 if you want to visit.

Alarmingly , Hastings is now in the hands of the Greens. With poor public transport and low incomes, I dread to imagine what harm they will do. Idealists.

@SW-User Give them a chance. They can always be given the boot just like anyone else.

@SW-User let’s hope they are not as corrupt.

@SW-User Public transport exists in most populous areas . . but won't do for much longer if people don't use it.

Congestion charging applies a price to the environmental damage caused by motorists, on the well established principle of "the polluter pays".

When I am in the office I am often bemused by colleagues complaining about heavy traffic, as though their own decision to travel solo in a car has in no way contributed to the problem. And these people are invariably the better paid employees who live within a couple of miles of the office and have the most options for alternative transport. Those who use trains, buses, park and ride, etc, travel greater distances (usually because they can't afford to live in the city) and are most inconvenienced . . but nevertheless don't complain so much.

@SW-User You have evidence of corruption in Brighton? 😳
SW-User
Funny how all the voting cards were in pencils! ✏️ ffs 🤦🏼‍♀️ with a 12 hour delay.

And people deny it’s a fix lol 🙄
SW-User
@SW-User You've completely lost the plot. You honestly think that after people cast a vote, people went round and erased their vote and pencilled in Khan?

Prove it.

Someone’s lost the plot and it certainly isn’t me.

🤓
@SW-User That doesn’t happen in UK elections. I have witnessed three counts. Fraud is all but impossible.
SW-User
@Adeptlinguist Of course it doesn't happen. I know this. Apparently @SW-User doesn't.

Keep believing in BS lol
@SW-User Not sure who you are addressing here
SW-User
@SW-User are you seriously suggesting that’s truthful??? Oh my God!!😂😂😂
SW-User
@Adeptlinguist both of you. I said I know that voter fraud is negligible in the uk. However fairydust, without evidence, believes it’s widespread (unless far right candidates win, then it’s legit of course)
@SW-User Aha! For all the UK’s faults, the electoral process (NOT FPTP) is sound. There are so many checks and balances that I am confident that it is close to impossible to rig an election. As mentioned, I have been an agent at three counts in the UK (including one of the closest votes in history) so know in detail how it works and what the safeguards are.

@SW-User Have you ever actually voted before? Pencils are always provided in polling booths. There is nothing to stop you from bringing your quill and bottle of ink should you wish 😐

Counting over 2 million votes by hand takes time. Perhaps you should have volunteered to help and speed things up!
