Separation of church and state. America should not be guided by theology or by organised religion. The mistake the USA has made is to allow religion to influence its politics.

That might be throwing rocks in glass houses. The Vatican doesn't exactly have a stellar reputation re: protecting children.

It's time "The Church" just packed up and went away -- ideally after selling off its billions of dollars worth of art, treasure, and real estate and donated it to the poor.

@sree251 Very good movie -- and book. Haven't watched it in years. Probably should.

With all do respect, the Pope's opinion has no, and should have no, bearing on The Constitution of the United States.
WE need the Supreme Court to rule on this issue, in hopes of protecting our children.

@jackieash
Get the US to declare war on the Vatican
This would be a big mistake. The Vatican has more foreign bases than the US Government, and a larger human population than China. The Catholic Church's planetary reach is unparalleled. Don't wake the sleeping giant. Japan did and suffered two atom bombs.

It is cute how you think the Vatican owes the POTUS anything.
And some of the Pope's opinions being stuck in the 12th century is not a flex.

Joe is just a Catholic, a member of the Church, nothing more. He public conduct is a disgrace. The Vatican needed to disavow connection with the US President's embrace of LGBTQ culture.

The Pope has no opinion. His stance on any matter is doctrinal and consistent with Catholic theology.

@sree251 So Joe Biden supports genocide and your whining that he isn't a bigot?
There is a reason most Catholics have taken to taking the words of the Pope as suggestions for about 50 years.

Religion has always influenced politics. Think middle ages
PicturesOfABetterTomorrow · 41-45, M
@sree251 It is amusing that you talk about sliding back into the dark ages....when the church was probably the greatest power in the known world.
Irony.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow The Church is still the greatest power in the known world even though it doesn't have a single bomb.

I agree. That's what makes the American miracle so unique. This country was the FIRST to rule AGAINST the state using religion for political purposes.

That's the guy who protects child molesters, right? Who cares what he thinks?

Yeah, but previous Popes also allowed the colonization of Ireland, the brutal slaughter of Native Americans and hid Nazis. So you'll forgive me if idgaf, sincerely, someone of Irish Catholic descent.
