I'm a politics nut and could talk about it all day but I realise it's not for everyone.
I just don't see the point in talking to someone about something that they are not interested in.

@CountScrofula I know they your workplace id very political ( in multiple ways lolz) but I never talk politics with colleagues. My teaching assistant is centre right but I also like her as a person.
@Burnley123 Don't you find it to be draining when people can't disagree with you without calling you names, though??? I know I do...

I have one friend who was so distraught when LEGALLY ELECTED PRESIDENT TRUMP had his reelection stolen, that the guy is obsessed with politics. He spends most of his days watching Glenn Beck. Politics is all he talks about. (Yeah, I told him he should have gotten married and had kids. His life would have been different.)
You're right about politics being a waste of time.
I don't even watch Fox News on TV any more (even though it is the top rated and most reliable news source on the planet.) All those talking heads flaunting their egos with a million commercials.
Not worth the time. Fox's website is a better choice. Scan the headlines, click what's important and move on.
When I want politics, I come to places like this.
