Most US Conservatives think that the 2020 election was rigged.

So why bother standing in the next one? It doesn't make any sense, if you genuinely think that the system will be set against you.

Also, the Democrats rigged it extremely badly because they didn't give themselves a super-majority.

It's a case of people choosing to believe what they want. If all politicians are liars, then pick the lie you like the best. suspend disbelief, like you would watching a movie.

I think you have to separate Republicanism from Trumpism.

Both have their dues and their faults but Trump has manipulated language and meaning to muddy a political language barrier his core support wouldn't understand anyway.

@Picklebobble2 Some Trump supporters I talked with here on SW are certainly not ignorant doofuses.

@Picklebobble2 But its Official. Republicanism IS now Trumpism. The slightly less loony right needs a new name..😷
22Michelle · 61-69, T
@helenS Then why would they support Trump?
jehova · 31-35, M
@Picklebobble2 thats the best way to say it sir/madam the brainwashed seperate from republicans. Simple easy truth.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@helenS i wasn't suggesting they were.
Merely that Trump has no interest nor knowledge of anything economic; nor political nor diplomatic which is what leadership of a nation requires in order to try and make any headway in a country and wider world still recoiling from covid and economic slump.

@whowasthatmaskedman Got the same problem in the UK.

The Conservative Party has been in power since '10; had 5 leaders; has left the trade bloc on the advice of a now discredited former leader and economically is at constant odds with Bank of England over everything from budget requirements from government to interest rates for savers and borrowers alike.

Current polling suggests a new right-wing party is likely to see traditional conservatives come third in the next election

@jehova oh i don't think they're brainwashed they just seem to follow an extremely wealthy man making traditional "It's all the fault of immigrants; the disabled; welfare users; single mothers....." trite comments.

Just because he says things they think too
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@22Michelle Because Trump plays The blame game and if you can throw your despare/hope/hate etc. in THAT direction you don't have to take any responsibility for not making improvements in their lives during your term in office
jehova · 31-35, M
@Picklebobble2 im unconvinced he has money at all. Looking at his complaining who woild have any faith in usng him as a business?
luckranger71 · 51-55, M
@Picklebobble2 There is no Republican Party anymore, in the way it existed from Nixon to the middle of the last decade. It’s wholly owned by Trump.

Maybe a better way of saying it is: the Republican Party is not conservative anymore. It’s fueled by the personal grievances of one man who’s excellent into tapping into wider grievance.
helenS · 36-40, F
@luckranger71 I predict that Mr. Trump will lose again, he will recycle his "stolen elections" rhetorics, but most people will just roll their eyes. The GOP will become a true conservative party again.
Fingers crossed...
