Women in France rejoice over enshrined right to abortion

This week, women in France celebrated the newly enshrined right to abort their children.

The US was able to recognize that this right is not constitutional, and could only be if you rewrite the constitution. Since Roe v. Wade was overturned in June 2022, states have been able to decide their own abortion laws.

French president said: "we're sending a message to all women: your body belongs to you and no one can decide for you."

He added he "will not rest" until abortion is introduced to the EU's Charter of Fundamental Rights. In a speech during the ceremony to mark this now constitutional right, he declared this is "freedom, a fight made up of tears, tragedies and broken destinies."

Yes, there are many broken destinies. They are broken because they were taken by abortion.

The Eiffel Tower lit up with the words "#My bodyMychoice." Women in France believe that this is a "victory."

Victory for whom, I wonder?

Disgusting. It's not about controlling a womans rights over her body... It's about the body inside hers right to live.

@Matt85 even when the mother will die by bringing the child to term?
Matt85 · 36-40, M
@meJess No. I am talking generally. Rape, disabillity and the possibility of death are another story.

@Matt85 please don’t mistake this for a fight, it’s a discussion. The additions you added would still come under your first statement putting the life of the unborn child first. If that is the case what difference is there in how conception occurred?. Can you restate a position that doesn’t put the rights of the unborn over the mother, who may have other dependents? It’s ok if not because a number of people seem to support the position as you originally stated it, ignoring all other factors.

@Midlifemale that was not the statement made by the poster
Midlifemale · 61-69, M
@meJess I was replying to Mejess...thats all
Matt85 · 36-40, M
@meJess Okay. In future I will try to do that.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Matt85 Why am I not surprised to find you here?

Look, I respect you just a bit more than I do some folks, so I'm going to warn you now. Arguing over this doesn't end with folks wanting to shake my hand and buy me a beer afterward, but I'm more than happy to debate it.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@Matt85 You have a very outdated conservative mindset.
Matt85 · 36-40, M
@LordShadowfire I'm gonna argue this and still get you a beer. I'm on my 3rd right now, if I seem extra friendly. :)
meJess · F
@Matt85 you have a right to hold any opinion you wish, I am interested if your opinion is as you first stated or is actually more intricate. Black and white attitudes are the most dangerous, they suggest an inability to critically think with sometimes disastrous consequences. Heres my nuclear comment if you allow abortion for any reason however complicated, rape, incest danger to the mother; aren’t you actually pro-choice?

Philosophical only, enjoy your beer

@Matt85 Okay, cool. If it seems like I'm getting heated, rest assured I'm probably not.

So here we go. Explain to me how this...
...has more rights than this:
Matt85 · 36-40, M
@LordShadowfire well it starts off like that but pretty soon theres a heartbeat and a nervous system. Basically I think it gets worse as time goes on.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Matt85 Let me ask you something, one spiritual person to another. At what point do you think a spirit inhabits the body? And what do you consider the embryo before that time?
Matt85 · 36-40, M
@LordShadowfire That's a blank I wouldn't dare to fill in and other people shouldn't either.
@meJess I would not shed a tear if a woman dies if she's using it as birth control.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Matt85 Really? Because knowing what we know about human anatomy, a body with no brain can't be operated. Therefore, it would be pointless to inhabit such a body, would it not?
@meJess If it's pregnancy by heinous sexual assault or legitimate medical, then I'll support their choice, however those account for less than 5% combined, the rest of the 95+% are done as birth control.

Disgusting. It's not about controlling a womans rights over her body... It's about the body inside hers right to live.
Suppose women who are denied the right to an abortion simply committed suicide. Do you think the control freaks would change their minds after 10 million women committed suicide?
SW-User
@Diotrephes Mass suicide probably wouldn't bother the state. Does it bother you? Does that make you a "control freak"?

It is highly unlikely that these women would commit suicide; they are too preoccupied with the self.

@meJess when the mother's life is in danger it is not called an abortion. It is whatever the surgery is to save the woman's life a sad part of that is they may lose the child. But whenever a surgery is performed to save a mother's life and the loss of a baby is never called an abortion. And a topic pregnancy is not an abortion. Medical ethics clearly states that if a surgery is needed to save a mother's life it is referred to as that surgery not as an abortion. Abortion is merely the unnecessary termination of a child's life.

when the mother's life is in danger it is not called an abortion.
He said, completely fucking oblivious of medical records since time immemorial.

@Matt85 Right!!! How did the body inside hers get its life? How responsible for that woman's future are you? How responsible for that fetus' future are you? Now.... go talk to your son, your nephew, your neighbour and your locker-room buddies about responsibility.
@Diotrephes I love how it’s men that are most outspoken in this. They don’t have to carry the bullet for 9 mionths and many just run away anyway. I wish there was so much outrage about women’s rights and the murder rates of women world wide. No? I though not.
