Republican response to Biden's State of the Union falls flat as a pancake as the Senator giving the response was critical of Biden on immigration

while being one of the Republican senators who helped negotiate the bipartisan border security deal only to vote against that same bill she worked on after Insurrectionist-Cry-Baby-trump signaled to congressional Republicans that no immigration policy should pass during the election year.

Can I do a MarkPaul imitation here?

"Does it matter the The Base that..."?

My answer: Probably not.

Hopefully fixing problems instead of using them will appeal to enough voters, and maybe eventually we'll get better government.

But, I don't think "the Base" is going to buy that. There's way too much desire there to profit either emotionally or monetarily from twisting the government and even breaking it or overthrowing it.

I'll say this, though. I think Katie Britt comes off way better than Palin or MGT. As Alyssa Farah noted, though there was something odd about that performance. She was, though, a fairly animated and expressive Stepford Wife.

I’d do her @MistyCee
@jackjjackson Careful there. I'll bet underneath that annoying repetitive smiling, she may not really be a doll.

Plus, isn't her husband a former football player?

I didn’t say more than once 😂 @MistyCee

@MistyCee Sadly, we need to give up on "the base" buying anything that is based on reason, logic, or good sense for their own interests or anyone else's... including their own kids. Despite what they say or how breathlessly they may say it at hate rallies or even in their own kitchens, they are like the 1990's Heaven's Gate "travelers" who knew they were going to die, but only wanted to please their leader by pretending their self-imposed deaths would transport them ("beam me up" style) to an alien spaceship... in uniforms.

Why are Omar and Cortez supporters against the so called democratic base whatever that is? @MarkPaul
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@jackjjackson It's the extremists on both sides... both sides... that really are against the mainstream of "their" respective orientations. It's why Insurrectionist-Cry--Baby-trump is floating the idea of Tulsi Gabbard as a running mate to pander to those extremists rather than put in the effort to win over Nikki Haley supporters.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
I see Gabbard as more at State, Homeland Security, Defense. VP is a nothing job. Maybe there’s a place for Sinema too? 😂 @MarkPaul
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@jackjjackson They'll never get the chance. George Santos won't either.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Santos no way the others two I hope so. @MarkPaul
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@jackjjackson They are damaged goods... has beens at this point. And, in the case of Gabbard, a "never was."
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
You’re probably right. It’s seems however that both at least have some “skills” and I’d rather see new blood rather than the usual beltway jackass hacks when post election appointments occur. @MarkPaul

@jackjjackson Personally, I'm a fan of experience and training whether in the operating room, piloting a plane, getting a dental cleaning, or running a country.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
I agree in general except for the last category. There, political bias has too much influence. Experience in related fields and an equitable blend of political leanings among them especially “permanent “ civil service would serve us citizens better than what at least appears to be an agenda driven running of government. @MarkPaul
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@jackjjackson What you mention seems to have been the genuine intent, desire, and hope (for the future) of the Founders. George Washington warned against it (in addition to loyalty to political parties). They didn't envision career politicians even though they understood that could and most likely would happen. But, unless there is a wholescale change, a few temporary citizen-officials, no matter how well placed, will only themselves become influenced by the career politicians and the influence-peddled environment.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
The founders never envisioned the sheer number of career civil service people. It is not a secret that those folks bring their personal politics to the job every day. @MarkPaul
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@jackjjackson Yeah, we're making the same point. Where we diverge is... career politicians don't have the guts or fortitude and the electorate doesn't have the attention span to change the whole system back to its original intent. So, this is what we must work with.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
I suppose I’m an optimist who would l8ke changes. @MarkPaul
