They don't want to be analyzed and criticized. These guys aren't exactly the sharpest tools in the shed. They know every news outlet outside of the ultra-conservative ones will tear them apart. And they won't be able to lie or misrepresent Hunter's testimony if it's public and we hear what he has to say.

@Pikachu Although, as the motorcycle riding senior citizen from Florida pointed out, the Democrats have also held closed-door hearings. I think every hearing should be public unless it's dealing with classified information.

The concept of a closed-door hearing is not one i necessarily find problematic. The utter refusal to allow it to be public is the strange part.
