South Africa "genocide" claims

From what I have read so far, South Africa outlined their case in a professional way. It doesn't simply accuse Israel of "genocide" but argues that there have been statements made by Israeli politicians that incite/imply genocidal intent, and evidence on the ground that suggests that some IDF soldiers and commanders have taken action towards that extent. They did condemn the Oct 7th attacks on multiple occasions, stated their claim is against the administration of Israel and not against Jewish people, and reiterated that they cannot charge Hamas with the same because Hamas is not a country who signed the Geneva Treaty and therefore out of the jurisdiction of the court. The legal jurisdiction for this hearing is that both South Africa and Israel signed an anti-genocide treaty and that Israel is breaking the terms of that treaty. I saw nowhere that they made antisemitic statements, fabricated evidence, were disrespectful, or denied the legitimacy of Israel.

Israel's response? Well that is tomorrow, but in the meantime it sounds like their response is ad-hominin attacks, insinuations, name calling, and lies. Sounds just like Trump lawyers. Or Saddam Hussein's. If you want to win in court, or in the court of public opinion, you have to at the very least have respect for the process.

I'd like to hear others' take on this, but I found this article very interesting and not behind a pay-wall:

And here is south Africa's petition:

Well, at least they are being objective:

For this reason it is important to place the acts of genocide in the broader context of Israel’s conduct towards Palestinians during its 75-year-long apartheid, its 56-yearlong belligerent occupation of Palestinian territory and its 16-year-long blockade of Gaza.

The facts relied on by South Africa in this application and to be further developed in these proceedings establish that — against a background of apartheid, expulsion, ethnic cleansing, annexation, occupation, discrimination, and the ongoing denial of the right of the Palestinian people to selfdetermination

@Bumbles the charge is that israel broke the genocide treaty, which it and south Africa have signed. Hamas has not signed that treaty, so this court has no jurisdiction.

@Northwest You so salty, but yes, that is definitely my “narrative.” The UN is now worth a bucket of spit. All institutions can lose their legitimacy. Many would say the US Supreme Court is another example.

I agree with your take on the South Africa case. ✌️

The genocidal rhetoric is definitely not smart.

@trollslayer Ahh, well, not sure if they have standing to sign it, but their charter would make that a problem.

South Africa seems to be presenting a unique case: while a Genocide may not have happened, Israel's government, as demonstrated by some of its leaders, and soldiers, is gearing up to conduct one, so something must be done now to prevent it.

@Picklebobble2 I think SA is acting mostly unilaterally with the goal of being a "global player" and as a diversion from internal strife.

@trollslayer Makes no sense. South Africa is generally silent on most world events. Not even as if they have a President looking for notoriety, unlike most other nations.

@Picklebobble2 South Africa's action, may not have been prompted by third parties.

The beef between South Africa and Israel goes way back to the time Israel was supplying the SA apartheid regime with weapons, as well as security/intelligence assistance, as well historic Israeli ties, through the Oppenheimer family, to exploitation of workers/natural resources, in the diamond industry, during apartheid.

I recall anti-apartheid demonstrations, in the US, where the black protesters would ask Jewish groups, also proteting anti-apartheid, to find their own corner.
the country killing white farmers is accusing others of genocide.

aint that just peachy....

Doing someone, snuffing a guy, making us watch - you know about this country, right? That's this country in a nutshell.
They should have went after Hamas but I don't know if they had the means. Were their names on record and such.
