How does one confuse a hostage for an enemy combatant?

Was the hostage holding a weapon?

Netanyahu does not care about the hostages. If he did, he would be seeking a ceasefire and peaceful resolution and hostage return....but his aim is to level Gaza into dust, then step in and take the land....just as Putin wants Ukraine for Russia expansion.

There are plenty of Israeli troops out for revenge. The three men were unarmed. According to Haaretz, they were either abandoned by their captors, or fled when their location was breached.

One of them is a special needs man, who struggled with mental issues all his life. To add insult to injury, he's the guy who was mercilessly paraded and humiliated through Gaza, by his Hamas captors.

@Northwest Hope the families sue Netanyahu for murdering their loved ones.

@Northwest New York Times reporting that they were waving white flags
The IDF has guns, and apparently anyone who is unarmed is fair game to be shot in the street.

They care so much about the hostages, they'll kill them before anyone else can

And that's the thing, it's for certain that way more hostages have been killed by the IDF bc these bombs do not discriminate

@trollslayer it's one of those topics where it's like you're walking through a minefield. Any step and it will blow up in your face bc people will mischaracterize you, make assumptions etc
@deadgerbil Yes, it's very tricky to express empathy for suffering in Gaza

@deadgerbil My hope through all this is that it can open up a conversation about antisemitism, and that most of those being claimed as "antisemites" are really just caring people trying to HELP the Jewish people in the long run. Sad to see hostages killed by friendly fire, but maybe, just maybe, it will wake more Israelis up to concerns expressed by the rest of the world rather than to immediately dismiss them.
When you're lobbing large explosive devices from several miles away, there's no real way to know who might be in the next building that gets blown up.

@ElwoodBlues My point exactly. Pretty much lends fuel to the critics who claim Israel is indiscriminately shooting at people.

Hamas isn’t exactly dressed to stand-out, but I don’t dismiss concerns about IDF not being discerning. I think this may have been inevitable in the fog of war as well.

The IDF has history of shooting unarmed civilians carrying white flags, so this is not that surprising.
Was the hostage holding a rattle and giggling?
