Chicago Suburb Declares Emergency After Arrival of Roughly 100 Migrants

"On Thursday, a Chicago suburb declared an emergency after just over 100 migrants arrived in their town, a press release reports.

According to the press release from the local board, a few dozen migrants arrived at the Village of Oak Park, and were in need of shelter amid cold temperatures. The migrants were “primarily living outside of the Chicago Police Department’s 15th District in the nearby Austin neighborhood,” the release read.

“The Village Board authorized $150,000 in funds for asylum seekers,” the release said, citing the Oct. 30 meeting in which the amount was decided. “Last month, the Village received an additional $150,000 in the form of a Supporting Municipalities for Asylum Seeker Services (SMASS) grant from the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus.”

Additionally, Village Manager Kevin J. Jackson opened an emergency operations center on Nov. 1 to help the migrants find shelter amid the lowering temperatures.

It wasn’t until Nov. 2 when the board determined that an emergency declaration was necessary in order to “provide additional aid and support to asylum seekers residing in Oak Park.”

What are they afraid of ? Aren’t these just honest good people, looking for a better life ??? I agree with graphite they should open their homes

@missyann Every part of the USA is a 'sanctuary' for people from other countries and cultures. Do you think an 'emergency' should be declared when a family from any other country relocates to the USA to live permanently because they are not US nationals with citizenship rights by birth? Why isn't the Hamptons offered up as a place where refugees and new permanent residents can be settled?

@butterflybaby75 I hear the Aleutian Islands are looking for settlers....
missyann · 51-55
@butterflybaby75 Yes, it should be that way but unfortunately it’s not. Those who bring crime and destruction to the United States, makes it bad for those who want a better life.

Chicago votes solid Democrat and thus should be throwing welcoming. parties for the illegals. Time for Chicago Democrats to start welcoming these illegals into their homes; its a sanctuary city, isn't it? A tent on the sidewalk won't suffice; time for Chicago's Democrats to each house a few illegals in their own homes.

Great job Chicago!!! 👊

And the dumbass voters will keep voting in these idiotic democrats. Send more illegals there.
nudistsueaz · 56-60, F
I thought they were welcomed there, what happened???
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
How is that an 'emergency'?
graphite · 61-69, M
@butterflybaby75 It's an emergency when Democrats get called out on their hypocritical virtue-signaling. "We're not racist and we welcome illegals! Unless some actually show up."
DallasCowboysFan · 61-69, M
@butterflybaby75 If 100 people is an emergency, what do they call the thousands of people that pass through border towns like Eagle Pass, Texas; and El Paso, Texas, every few days?
Each community should refuse them and what it would cost to basically support them; use that money for airline tickets to anywhere of their choosing in Central or South America or Mexico.
His majesty Eric Adams of NYC has offered that also except he didn’t limit it to say the areas I cited. But he’s an idiot.
I always knew you guys had tough immigration laws but an emergency alert over 100 immigrants? Bit dramatic isn't?

Chicago does come to mind as I saw the musical recently on a hot date with a beautiful woman named Charlotte- we did go the whole nine yards in case anyone was wondering 😏

@TheAlanPartridge Martha's Vineyard foes have an airport. Those rich folk aren't taking the ferry.
@HoraceGreenley Lovely, champagne and bird watching for everyone, I'm sure it'll keep the illegals entertained while they're awaiting deportation.

They should probably keep the binoculars to lessen the blow.... maybe the champagne flutes too.

@TheAlanPartridge
They already moved the illegals off the island
DallasCowboysFan · 61-69, M
What are they doing for the poor and disadvantaged that are already there?
nudistsueaz · 56-60, F
@DallasCowboysFan Perfect question!
IM5688 · 61-69, M
Send them back where they came from until they can apply and enter the country legally.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
I'm surprised they even noticed.
nudistsueaz · 56-60, F
Pay, pay, pay.....
calicuz · 51-55, M
Oh, now I get it......................... you got Illegal Immigrants and Refugees mixed up again, didn't you? 🤔
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@calicuz There is a difference?
