If Donald Trump even runs in this next election, I'm moving to Canada

America is such an evil country as is, that would just put it over the top

Sometimes I think people have an exaggerated idea of what power a president wields. There are two other branches of the federal government and 50 state governments. I also tend to think most people overlook the fact that he only got elected because the opponent got smug and smart-assed her way out of a certain victory.

@GerOttman nah. She just wasn't popular like they thought she was. All the extra mistakes she made didn't help.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
@SamInAZ Popular or not, she and the democratic party should have blown DT away. Only themselves to blame!
SamInAZ · 41-45, M
@GerOttman he's probably going to win again.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
@SamInAZ that would be hilarious, but I don't think so!
@GerOttman Keep in mind that Trump controls the Republican party, and the Republicans have a majority on the SCOTUS. Checks and balances are good, but if all three branches are full of Fascists, or even just people willing to do whatever the lead Fascist wants, then those checks and balances mean nothing.

Also, I don't think people understand how close the Republicans came to stealing the election. The fake electors scheme didn't happen because Pence was afraid of going to jail. If they went through with the plan, Trump easily could have been president again.

Finally, remember that the Nazis did not violently overthrow the Weimar Republic government. They infiltrated the government, consolidated power, and rendered the checks and balances meaningless. Basically, they did what Republicans want to do with the Project 2025.

@GerOttman it probably will happen. Wouldn't surprise me one bit.

@BohemianBabe I admire your passion but disagree with your analysis of the situation.
SamInAZ · 41-45, M
@GerOttman that's fair enough. Guess we will all just have to wait & see.

@GerOttman What Trump has now that he didn't have when he ran the 1st time is the vocal and tacit support of half of Congress. His antics are losing that support now, but all that's important in politics at the moment is simply winning. Doesn't matter who you support, what their background is, what they've done in office. As long as you feel a part of something and you win.

And while his lunatic base is small, he opened all the lock on racism and bad behavior. There are many, many Trump voters who wear suits to work and maintain nice homes - they simply ignore the crazy, hateful stuff. Because even they're scared of change and just want to win.
SamInAZ · 41-45, M
@Graylight horrible analysis. Way off the mark.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@SamInAZ No, it's actually back by analysts whose job it is to decipher these things. And as you're new here. I'll assume you temporarily lost your manners in the move.

If this is your approach, may I offer TruthSocial as an alternative?

@Graylight Oh, also this:
