Pre democracy, there was an argument against the masses voting because they were unsound minds, unqualified to know what was best for a country.

Reading politics posts here add substance to that concern. Every slack jawed idiot has a vote to cast. And that’s possibly why things are as they are.

Perhaps democracy has had its day.

Even slack jawed idiots (of which every modern democracy has a preponderance) can exercise a thoughtful right to vote in a country with a) a good general primary and early-secondary education which b) has an emphasis on civics and c) a non-exclusive guiding philosophy (be it a religion or otherwise, including a civic religion of the sort particularly strong in the USA).

The problem isn't idiots voting, it's idiots being kept as idiots by a state apparatus which can't be bothered uplift but rather hopes to push everyone else into the mire with them.

Otherwise you're right. Feudalism run on a principle of noblesse oblige all the way, please.
