Pre democracy, there was an argument against the masses voting because they were unsound minds, unqualified to know what was best for a country.

Reading politics posts here add substance to that concern. Every slack jawed idiot has a vote to cast. And that’s possibly why things are as they are.

Perhaps democracy has had its day.

Citizenship used to carry responsibilities .

@AthrillatheHunt True but none of those people were 'citizens' as we define them today...i.e. born in the US.
Recall that 'white, rich land owners' was the standard for voting rights.

@JSul3 depending on what time period in which country citizenship had different meanings with different rights responsibilities and privileges.
JSul3 · 70-79
@AthrillatheHunt True. As white men moved westward, the 'land owner' requirement was dropped by many states, then in time, here comes the 13. 14, and 15th Amendments....the Voting Rights Act in '65, then in 2013 SCOTUS removed a federal protection in Shelby County v. Holder.
(Also the Indian Citizen Act of 1924)

@JSul3 you got white on your mind huh ? In present day , many countries don’t give citizenship “just bc you were born there”.

@AthrillatheHunt I am simply stating historical facts of US history.
