If you wanna know the hard truth that's never mentioned (aka the elephant in the room) it's our unbridled addiction to capitalism. This is [i][b]not[/b][/i] saying capitalism is good or bad (it's actually neutral in that regard).

We have a society that not only has a certain percentage who is absolutely fine with an absurd level of gun violence, yet it's also perfectly acceptable (and even critical) to make a profit off everything, including life and death. In this case, health insurance.
