... as an out-of-court settlement, in order to avoid court proceedings.

@helenS Yes they admitted to lying to avoid a long lawsuit!

@Carazaa I would have preferred seeing a full-fledged lawsuit where all those lies would become apparent.

@helenS It was full-fledged lawsuit, only settled prior to open trial. But a lot, if not most or all, the most damaging admissions were already made public and discussed during the discovery process. The judge already has sanctioned Fox for being slow in providing that information in discovery, and rebuked Fox and its lawyers for initially lying about Murdoch's role at Fox News. Other than keeping the news cycle going for a few more weeks, the damage has been done. And even though Fox hopes to diminish that aspect by settling without a trial, Smartmatic's lawsuit demanding even more for the same issues is next on the docket, as is a tangentially related lawsuit by a former Fox News producer, and the settlement is most likely to bring out some more lawsuits. And they will all be using what Dominion was able to surface and bring to light in the discovery. It isn't going away

@dancingtongue It's sad that something like that can happen at all in contemporary America (a big and malevolent lie about "stolen elections", believed by millions of citizens, and intentionally distributed by a major network) – but it's good to hear the wrongdoers won't get away with it.

And that doesn't happen every single day on CNN and every other garbage network (Russian collusion hoax)?
helenS · 36-40, F
@Slade i really don't know. Are there litigations/lawsuits against CNN too, on the same scale?
Slade · 56-60, M
@helenS several paid off already by CNN
helenS · 36-40, F
@Slade There's less information about that here in Europe.
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@helenS @Slade Perhaps because with CNN it has been about sexual harassment in the workplace rather than falsifying the news to maintain ratings as entertainment.
Slade · 56-60, M
@dancingtongue No. Poor try. They had to pay a giant settlement to Nick Sandman for lying and trying to destroy his life.

For one.
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@Slade Terms of that settlement and his settlement against the Washington Post as well were never released. So we don't know the size of the monetary settlement, or even if any money was involved, since both were reporting on a video that had gone viral on social media which turned out to have been edited out of context, and both those media outlets reported that full context when the unedited video became available. Totally different from publishing/broadcasting as fact what you admit at the time knowing were outright lies.
@helenS CNN paid a settlement to that little twerp who was photographed smirking at an elderly Native American man.

@dancingtongue CNN sucks. Nobody watches it.

It oozes failure. But you still adore it...FAIL
