Lots of firsts for Trump.

First person to be impeached twice. First person to lost the popular vote twice. First person to try to overthrow an election. And now first former president to be indicted. I don't know about that last one though I mean losing the majority vote and still becoming president sounds illegitimate.

Kind of makes you wonder. How can a president put thousands of Japanese American citizens in concentration camps, and NOT get impeached? Or nuke two cities full of civilians?
@SusanInFlorida Different times. We were at war with a country that was never going to stop advancing without something horrific happening. And people in those days had no problem being racist against those who came from the enemy country.

@LordShadowfire actually, more people died in the firebombings of tokyo and dresden, than by nukes.

war crimes by today's standards.

but still, if i was harry truman with a nuclear bomb, i would have directed Japan's attention to some island with a military base on it. then had them look again after the island disappeared.
@SusanInFlorida I know. Me, too. But part of his reasoning (not that I agree with it) was he needed to prove that the emperor didn't care about his people. He wanted a huge tragedy that he could then blame on Hirohito's stubbornness.

Did it work? Absolutely. The Japanese people demanded an end to the war after that point. But I think you're right. It could have been done without the loss of life.

@LordShadowfire Small point of order... At the time of the Hiroshima bombing, the US had a total of 2 atomic bombs in inventory. And used them both. Since the political position was to save "American" lives by not invading the home Islands, Truman really had no choice. And a warning shot was not an option,.😷
@whowasthatmaskedman I mean, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, and neither of us were there, but I disagree.
