And here are some facts: In 1949, Congress set aside $1.4 billion as reparations to Native Americans. The US federal budget sets aside $4.5 billion for the Department of the Interior's Tribal programs in 2021.
And casinos aren’t “reparations” for anything. This is a complex area of law, but it has to do with land rights, deed owners and self-regulating government. Even so, I’d rather have casinos providing free education, health care, housing and economic-development aid to the indigenous people than have them on welfare.
Reparations are made all the time. To peoples, to tribes, to participants, to races to cultures. But not to black people. Tell me, is it that you’d deny someone what others deem them worthy of or is it that someone’s getting something you’re not?
