@SW-User Even the most progressive Christians believe that when it comes to Jesus's words, it is literal.

@swirlie The bible Old testament was written long before Jesus was on Earth. The Gospels are the teachings and words of jesus. A lot of the lost Gospels that are not part of the bible are also the words of jesus. However the Old testament are not written by jesus and are not regarded as the teachings of Jesus.

@JimboSaturn I never did when I was a Christian. I viewed evolution as a guided process. But I definitely felt like I was in the minority.

@Evolved I think most people understand when the various books of the Bible were written or committed to writing after being oral myths.

@swirlie I agree. I never meant it was physically written by the HAND of God. It was inspired by God is what I meant. Just as Jesus never wrote the Gospels of the Bible either. However , my interpretation of the Gospels is whether Jesus is God ? I believe he is.

@SW-User According to polls. Well the last one I looked up said 38% of Americans; this is the lowest ever.

@swirlie Apostle Paul wrote a large percentage of The New Testament. The rest were Mark, Luke, John & Matthew.

Quite frequently there are more and more archeological finds that prove the geographical areas of the Bible's references that were though to be lost forever.

I am sorry, but you're mistaken. The Bible is The Word of God.

@swirlie If you have read the Bible you would understand. "Numbers" is a book about all the tribes their census results and lineage. Most of every account in the Bible is just that, an Account of what was witnessed along with lists of the witnesses.
