Buttigieg blames Trump. How trite

Under Trump there was a minor rule change regarding trains. It had to do with the brakes. Buttigieg says that minor rule change caused the chemical spill in Ohio. What tripe. The cause of train derailment was an axle failed. Nothing to do with brakes or rule changes around brakes. Oh and the minor rule change around the brakes wouldn't have applied to this train anyways. This train was too short.

In 2014, following several high-profile train derailments, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration and the Federal Railroad Administration (which both operate under the Department of Transportation) proposed rules to bolster safety standards for trains carrying hazardous materials.

In 2015, during the Obama administration, a new safety rule was adopted requiring electronically controlled pneumatic brakes to be installed on all high-hazard flammable unit trains by 2023, allowing them to brake faster.

Then in 2018, under the Trump administration, the Department of Transportation repealed the rule.

@ElwoodBlues I would bet that Trump made money by revering the electronic brake rule. The train companies claimed it would cost them over 3 billion dollars to follow the new Obama brake rules. And I bet that's when Trumps hand went out and he promised to reverse the rule if they greased his palm. Cheers!
