Cost of living Crisis

With everything going up in the UK the government is giving the poorer people cash handouts. We are on benefits so we are entitled to these. However these payments are about £350-£360 we had one in the spring and now another is due. Then there's a payment of around £60 for electric which is monthly for the next six months. I'm grateful for these but gas and electric are not the only things going up. It's also water rates and food and some people are really struggling. It's not just the poor but also the working class who are struggling. Some are running out of food, gas and electric. At the moment we are managing but it's getting colder now. I'm sat here with a two cardigans on one of which is really thick. A scarf and a skirt over a pair of leggings. Ive got two pairs of socks on, some slipper socks and my slippers on. Also I'm under a blanket trying to keep warm. We are only having the heating on once or twice a week for an hour to shower or dry clothes. There rest of the time it's just a case of strip washes and brace yourself for the cold. I try to get dressed as I'm washing to avoid getting cold for too long. When is the government going to fix this mess?! It hasn't been this bad since the electric rationing in the 70's when I was a little girl.

Oh Ruby, I had no idea it was this bad. I am so sorry. This is just awful. No one should have to live like this. You are in my prayers. 🌹🤗

@LadyGrace yes some are much worse off than us. We are lucky to be getting some help. One chap on the news was saying he was only eating every other day it's awful!

My heart so goes out to you all. Oh I can't believe this. It makes me sick to think you all are suffering like this. I guess we'll be getting this soon, as well.

@LadyGrace it's because of Putin's war that the cost of gas has rocketed. With this and the pressure put on companies due to covid our economy is crashing.
@RubiesandButterflies how in the world can you sleep, being that cold? Is your electric out?

@LadyGrace I have this fleece cover that fits over the mattress it keeps the bed really warm. Then a sheet, a quilt I think you call it a comforter and two blankets on top. Plus a good old fashioned hot water bottle.

@RubiesandButterflies In my view, humna beings should only live in places where the water has the good manners to remain liquid all year round...I remember English winter most unfavourably..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman yeah British weather is cold and damp in winter. Luckily I've just had our government grant so was able to put the heating on tonight when we came in cold. I will have to try and ration the gas though to make the money last.

@RubiesandButterflies I have family there.. Luckily outside the large cities.. Somehow the real urban areas seem to be getting it worse.,.,I wish you luck.. I wish I could say a change of government would help. But your problems are real..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman yeah the government get rich whilst we suffer as always.

@RubiesandButterflies I have my own ideas on why that is.. But it certainly is...😷
