It is great that Britain has a person of colour as Prime Minister.

I don't like Rishi Sunak's politics at all but the fact that his ethnicity wasn't a barrier to him getting to the top is a good thing. I can't think of any major European country that has ever had a non-white leader. If you can, let me know in the comments.

It is very good and a rare note of optimism from the past two months. To those who point out that he is rich and privileged, that is beside the point. His ethnic heritage is something that he cannot hide, any more than Margaret Thatcher could disguise the fact that she was a woman. Both are extraordinary achievers in their own right, whatever we personally may feel about their politics.
