The Real MAGA mystery

I know a lot of MAGA oriented people in my life. Relatives, business associates, long time friends. They all have one thing in common and I'll bet all the Trumpers on SW share it:

None of them had the slightest interest in anything political prior to the time Obama was president and Fox News spending all day long talking about him like coming of Satan.

All of a sudden these people around me are talking off kilter politics to me everytime I see them. Rarely heard them talk about it before. All of a sudden they're watching Fox as much as they can, if they watched the news before it was for sports and weather.

Then Trump comes along and it blooms into all consuming passion.

From almost zero interest in the political world to making politics their whole world.

Do they even realize it?

You are wrong about that.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti same, im thinking Jimmy Carter🤦‍♂️😥
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Virgo79 There is a Silent Majority in this country that has awakened. So saying that we had no interest in politics before, we kept our mouths shut. Didn’t have the choices we wanted or needed until the last few years.

These people are morally bankrupt and lack critical thinking capabilities. If they love their country so much, they wouldn't believe that a guy who declared bankruptcy 8 times was married 3 times, has 27 sexual assault charges, has a $250million fraud suit against him, and stored top secret documents in his closet was capable of making sound, intelligent decisions.

@TrashCat again with the ego

Don’t get drunk up there
@TrashCat You forgot Child Rape. MAGA can overlook Child Rape if it's their guy. The Christians don't see a problem.

That could be the case with some of them. For others, they existed before Trump. That's why he was able to make a whole conspiracy out of Obama not being American, bc he tapped into long standing racial issues and there's no shortage of white conservatives who have a bone to pick with black people
They sre so indoctrinated now just the 4 letters alone trigger them into an immediate defense. m a g a It dosen't have that affect on me or the people I choose as friends.
Tres13 · 51-55, M
They have had enough of the BS
ron122 · 41-45, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Haha dude you will never trigger me you're a clown. I laugh at you and your comments.🤣
@ron122 Lol. Says the guy having a meltdown like a toddler.
ron122 · 41-45, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Now go away I'm talking to the adults. I don't have time to listen to some racist Canadian.
Doomflower · 36-40, M
Oh that's not my experience with them at all. Many I've known were right wing nutbars WAY before trump.
trollslayer · 46-50, M
For the most part. It's like they became self-proclaimed constitutional experts overnight. It's not that they didn't care about politics before; they just didn't talk about it or claim to know more than others.

Liberal minded folks had a similar turnaround - i know MANY people who told me they did not care or pay attention to politics at all until Obama was on the ballot.

Fear and anger and hate have always been at the heart and soul of America.

@robingoodfellow yes, correct
@SW-User looking at your comments I don't even think you read what I wrote.
SW-User
@robingoodfellow on reflection I was reactive because I’m over the divisiveness and sceptical given the narrative Obama to Trump voters flipped it

But your experience is your experience and the flip over though potentially decisive was smaller than I thought looking into it now

13-20% depending on the measure

I also wasn’t following fox - Obama was idealised overseas with 90plus approval ratings
Well the Trump cult started with the Birther conspiracy theory which Trumpy was also heavily involved in.

Do you even realise how immature you sound trying to negatively generalise against half the country?

@LordShadowfire do you think he’ll run in 2024?
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@SW-User I don't know. He's getting up there in years, and it's a high stress job.
SW-User
@LordShadowfire yeah, it is, definitely ages people
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
I swear they don't. My friend of 30 years or more is doing the same thing. Never talked once about Republicans versus Democrats, except when we both hated George W. Bush together. Trump gets into office, and he goes off the deep end. And then he has the nerve to tell me I've changed.

@LordShadowfire my aunt is 80 years old and has a life long friend. These two were so close the friend's husband gave my cousin away at her wedding.
The friend went all nuclear political with Trump to the point that she started getting nasty with my aunt. She says it hangs over their heads now and the friendship isn't the same.
Stupid and sad at the same time

I’d have to move. Those people are vile.

Everyone who ever said they are not political essentially has lied, even if they are not outwardly displaying their beliefs (or have not yet even consciously identified their own beliefs), nor actively participating in elections, but for the specific group of people you know personally, from zero to rabid all starting from the moment of the election of the first Black POTUS is just a weeeeee bit suspicious

Now Tucker talks about nonsense like "white genocide" ...

What could be the triggering issue to make these people suddenly hyperpartisans, hmmm, what could it be ...
@SW-User Alot of people forget that the status quo is also a political position.
