Introduction To Straw Man Arguments

Allow me to introduce you to straw man. It's a situation where a debater does not engage with the actual points being made, but with a completely different point that was never contested to begin with.
Interesting that this rarely gets called out here. Is it despite, or because of the fact that it probably replies to half of the responses?

BTW, I'm not pointing fingers.

That's a common tactic among politicians and job interviewees. Ignore the question and talk about something you have been briefed about/rehearsed in advance 🙂

I've noticed a lot of that. Yet it doesn't work well when you incorporate the original reply or post back into the discussion. That's why I do just that and often.
