Real Centrists are Liberals who support the Democrats.

@Spoiledbrat I am Liberal in essence but the current left has moved so far left I somehow turned into a conservative. I went to sleep a liberal but woke up labeled as a conservative without even doing anything.

To the far right since I'm not conservative enough I somehow magically turned into a communist without doing anything.

It's not that the Left has moved further Left. It's that for the first time since the forties, America has a political Left. Unfortunately, we still don't have much real political power, as most of the Democrats are right-leaning Liberals. And the Republicans are literal Fascists.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow The U.S. in general is pretty conservative compared to to other countries so within this country liberal and conservative have a different meanings.

@cyberdude28 Both parties for at least 40 years have subscribed to neoliberalism which is a right wing ideology that is predicated on the idea that all public sector problems can be fixed by free market solutions.

And any actual left wing movement after WW2 was crushed. The US was great at political purges justified by the Cold War.

@cyberdude28 They don't really have different meanings. The problem is somewhere along the way Americans because politically illiterate and don't understand the difference. Liberal and Conservative are both right wing positions.

Creating the illusion of a difference was and stiff is useful to powerful people.

@cyberdude28 Interesting bit of history for you. Social welfare programs were invented in Germany by Otto Von Bismark a conservative and royalist. They saw the socialist revolutions going on and basically shit their pants. The social welfare state was created with the idea of alleviating people's suffering just enough that they would not revolt.
