Woke North Dakota School Board Dumps Pledge of Allegiance, Claims It Isn’t ‘Inclusive’

Board member Seth Holden said that because “the word ‘God’ in the text of the Pledge of Allegiance is capitalized … the text is clearly referring to the Judeo-Christian god and therefore, it does not include any other faith such as Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, all of which are practiced by our staff and students.”

Holden also said it excluded those in Fargo schools who don’t believe in god. He claimed he is not against the Pledge itself, but that it can’t be said in a school committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, Inforum reported.

Member Robin Nelson, who voted to keep the Pledge, didn’t see anything wrong with reciting it.

Inclusive or not, woke or not, it literally serves no purpose. It's little more than nationalistic propaganda.

And it was pointless even before conservatives amended it in the 1950s during the red scare (irony for red staters) to suddenly include theism — you can quibble all day over whether it means Zeus or Allah or the Flying Spaghetti Monster, but it all boils down to theism — suddenly being introduced into the nationalist propaganda, never mind onto the money, when both functioned just fine without it before then ... conservatives are always looking for opportunities to reshape American life into their own minoritarian fantasy, for everybody, whether they want it or not, whether it serves any actual useful function or not).

Incidentally, while you people soil yourself over whatever contemporary bogeyman you can find, be it "wokeness" or something else, recognizing that the pledge is useless propaganda, that the midcentury introduction of theism into it and the currency is useless propaganda, and that only inserting the pledge relatively recently into sporting events is useless (and fairly unique to the US*) propaganda is not a 21st century phenomenon. Some of us didn't waste time observing the pledge in school even back in the 1980s, and it caused no problems.

Get over your damn propaganda and focus on the real world, real life, and living people instead of intangible nonsense for a change. You people spend so much time, decade after decade, LOOKING for problems, CREATING problems, all in the realm of the intangible world and other people's business, rather than seeing actual, legitimate problems right under your noses in the real world.
