Trump ally Rep. Scott Perry says FBI seized his cellphone

One day after the raid on former President Donald Trump‘s home, the FBI has seized the cell phone of a Republican member of Congress.

Rep. Scott Perry, Pennsylvania Republican, said in a statement to Fox News that three FBI agents handed him a warrant and demanded his phone.

“This morning, while traveling with my family, 3 FBI agents visited me and seized my cell phone. They made no attempt to contact my lawyer, who would have made arrangements for them to have my phone if that was their wish. I’m outraged — though not surprised — that the FBI under the direction of Merrick Garland’s DOJ, would seize the phone of a sitting Member of Congress,” he said.

They should carry two phones just to fuck with them😜
@Virgo79 My guess is a big part of this investigation is identifying burner phones that were used during the Jan 6 insurrection. Who here honestly believes Trump could have sat thru the whole Jan 6 insurrection without a SINGLE outside electronic communication? Nobody, right? That silence is best explained by Trump using burner phones, and I think the FBI knows something about what numbers Trump called & texted from.

@ElwoodBlues i can hear it now.....
Damn there must be something we can get him on!!!😂
@Virgo79 Looks like they've already got him on illegal transfer & storage of classified government documents.

I could go on, but you get the picture.

@ElwoodBlues what did they find?
@Virgo79 Nobody knows for sure, but since Trump's dead-enders are now accusing the FBI of "planting" documents, it sure sounds like they found some classified documents in Trump's possession.

There's also the fact that, back in Feb 2022, the news emerged that 15 boxes of classified documents had gone with Trump to Mar-a-Lago, and that the National Archives had been trying ever since to get them back, and that Trump has been ignoring/refusing those requests.

So this question of illegal possession of classified government documents did not suddenly come out of the blue, it's been building.

Umm, id think he would have just declassified them if it was gonna be a problem.
Kinda smelly to me
@Virgo79 If that's the case, it should be easy for Trump to produce some kind of record of his declassification while he was president.

Oops. There's also the Presidential Records Act.
What does the PRA say?

It established that presidential records belong to the US and that the president must transfer control of them to the National Archives and Records Administration after leaving office. Furthermore, while in office, the president may only dispose of records after an archivist determines they “no longer have administrative, historical, informational, or evidentiary value.”

What happens if the PRA is violated?

Though the PRA by itself doesn’t specify any penalties, violations could trigger several federal statutes that make it a felony to mishandle government property. These potentially include laws barring injury to US property, improper disposal of records belonging to the US, unauthorized removal or retention of classified materials and removal or destruction of any record deposited with a US office or official. Obstruction of justice statutes could also apply if the documents removed or destroyed were relevant to a criminal, civil or Congressional investigation. Convictions for injuring US property or improperly disposing of records can carry sentences of up to 10 years in prison.
@Virgo79 deadwood may not always be right, but he is never wrong, just ask him about racist rocks or bees being really fish sometime, if you want a laugh
@Virgo79
only way you could know so much
You mean because I can cut & paste from things I read?

Wow, just by reading instead of watching talking heads, I appear to you as authoritative, LOL!!!

@ElwoodBlues i was thinking you believe what you want to hear.
I mean if someone typed it out its gotta be right.
@Virgo79 I think when a legal journalist writes about fundamentals of law, they probably know what they're saying. You have reason to doubt the Presidential Records Act?
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@ElwoodBlues legal journalist write all sorts of things😂
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@Virgo79 Those legal analyst's that get taught how to indict a ham sandwich in law school?
@Virgo79 I notice you ducked my question about the PRA. Are you saying the legal journalist was wrong about the PRA? Or are you just throwing up a smokescreen at this point??

Wall St Journal is now reporting FBI was tipped off about Trump illegally holding documents and where he kept them. If so, it might be corroborated in the text of the search warrant. Trump is free to show the text of the search warrant, but has chosen not to. I wonder, why does he want it secret?
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@ElwoodBlues Who decides what documents are classified?
@sunsporter1649 Irrelevant if they're covered by the PRA. See above.

Were you going to suggest that declassifying documents is the best way to protect them?? LOL!!!

@ElwoodBlues And fish are really bees, right?
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
So if a legal scholar said it was unconstitutional you would agree?
@Virgo79 Show me the source and text of the statement.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@ElwoodBlues heres the source.
Id think he would know?
@Virgo79 I loaded the article in my browser and searched for "unconstitutional" and not even the string "uncon" appears in the article. Sorry, you seem to have misconstrued what Dersh said.
