Liz Truss is favourite to be the next Prime Minister.

In her world, neither Thatcherism nor Brexit went far enough. Cutting taxes and running down public services (even more) will produce growth and lower inflation. All existing EU laws must be scrapped within 15 months or else.

This is why I had such mixed feelings about Johnson going. Sunak would be bad enough but this is a woman who Dominic Cummings called mad.

Get ready for a bumpy ride.

She is indeed the extreme of the extremes. Hopefully, the British public will vote with their feet come next election.

I'm from the North - Sheffield is my hometown - and I always got told about how the Conservatives decimated the industries there - coal and steel - and I've seen their 'Holier Than Thou' stance on just about everything. Never liked it.

Roll on next election.

@AmberDuponte Indeed. Though in all honestly, Starmer is crap.
Its like some dark comedy based on having the biggest idiot and most incompetent person you can find to run your country. Except for its real life and its not funny.

We have Truss, who tried to bully Russia and didn't know the difference between the Black and the Baltic seas, or a man who thinks Doncaster is in Scotland. Time for a general election, wipe out the Tories and bring some sanity into the UK.

i thought truss was a supportive aid but this one is certainly never going to be too the poor old and needy of the united kingdom.by what you say it sends out a lot of alarming singles . the return too right wing thatcherism for example worry times indeed [burnley123]

@smiler2012 I follow the Tories closely enough.

In a sense, Thatcherism is mainstream within the Conservatives.. Sunak represent continuity of existing Thatcherism with a George Osborne flavour.

Truss represents an ideologue for Britania unchained, which was a book written by a group of Tory MPs. ten years ago. It calls for a new libertarian settlement; big deregulation, reductions in workplace protections and flat taxes. Boris supported it but not seriously. Truss supports it seriously.

She is deemed to be the bookies' favourite, which is perhaps not the soundest of political analyses 🤣 But yes, a worrying and surreal month ahead. All hopes pinned on a man who launched his campaign from Thatcher's hometown of Grantham 🤦‍♀️

But the British public have made their bed . . now they must lie in it 😔
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@SunshineGirl The bookies odds are based on polling that shows Truss with a big lead with Tory Party members.

Personally, I think Sunak is a stronger politician but it's not about what I think.

Her hard Brexit messaging will play well with this base. Additionally, Johnson fans amongst them will hate Sunak for welding the knife.

Yes is shows how much the Overton Window has shifted in that a Thatcher fan boy is now the 'moderate'.

@Burnley123 Sadly I suspect the fact that RS is not white may also influence this small electorate 😕
Havesomefun2 · 56-60, M
They are all the same just say what people want to her
@Havesomefun2 yup, and Brexit is totally going to bring back the good old days. I hope the UK really puts all its energy into Brexit. It's exactly what you deserve.
Havesomefun2 · 56-60, M
@Roundandroundwego only time will tell that’s if they have a back bone
pedrohedgerow · 61-69, M
@Havesomefun2 Agreed, wake up you wankers...said with urgency and neccessity...wake up
plungesponge · 41-45, M
She sounds like she'd get along with Trump
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@Burnley123 Shes an ex Lib dem and an ex remainer.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Entwistle LOL. And an anti-monarchist:

One thing that hasn't changed is the awkwardness.
plungesponge · 41-45, M
I'm imagining a wooden stiff-upper lip conservative, like a British John Bolton lol
Yikes. From what I can see it is either her or Rishi Sunak. So a reactionary or a hedge fund manager. 🤦‍♂️
Ironicman · 56-60, M
Truss it must be. We can't have a male PM who's shorter than Macron.
Entwistle · 56-60, M
She's as thick as a boxing day turd.
Starsandfire · 31-35, F
Ugh 🙄🙄😪
MartinII · 70-79, M
Best argument I have heard for Truss so far! But would she be able to deliver?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@MartinII lol..I have a suspicion that she has a Thereasa May level of political skill. I could be wrong.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@Burnley123 Yes, I think that could be right. I feel I have a fair idea what sort of PM Sunak would be, much less of what sort Truss would be - even though Truss has advanced many more specific policies than Sunak has.
I'm for that.
The UK deserves that.
@Roundandroundwego You must really hate them 😂
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@Roundandroundwego What did they ever do to you that would make you wish such a disaster on them?
