And this is where the Dems trip up

Some democrats are calling on Congress for clarification that conservative Supreme Court justices mislead the public when they said they didn't plan to touch Roe v. Wade. They want censure or penalty of some kind.

And this is where we as a party utterly, spectacularly lose the plot. "I promise; I'll pull out; I'm not planning on children; I plan to live in Ohio all my life; the check is in the mail." These are all lies we tell. When you ask someone to make a promise of the future on shifting sand, you cannot trust the response; it's not even fair. Of course they said what they had to to get the job. Who here hasn't?

Conservatives are the party of hypocrites. They lie, they're transparent about it, they're contradictory and not to be trusted. They don't care. They are not going to be shamed. They are not going to see the error of their ways because we pointed it out to them. Surely there are bigger issues at hand.
The conservatives care about lying when it suits them. They’re the folks who moved to impeach a president not (they claimed) because he cheated on his wife, but because he lied about it.

I’d be willing to bet more folks have lied about infidelity than on job applications. Because you can get fired for that, and have no recourse. That’s not a small thing.
Employers generally don’t care about your personal life.
Sighs.

First of all, its pretty frigging ridiculous that anyone could possibly believe that Roe wouldn't be "touched." I don't think even Collins or Murkowski is that stupid, tbh, and, IMO, AOC is taking a cheap shot with this crap.

Second, why the hell are you calling these folks "Conservatives" when they're demonstrably trying to rip apart basic principles like honesty, i.e., not bearing false witness, etc, which have kind of been the foundation of humans and primates before that being able to survive against predators with bigger teeth and claws.

Sure, we all lie and we were individual organisms before we become social animals, but over millions of years, we learned to cooperate by at least selectively telling the truth on matters of common concern, and that is what these so called "Conservative"/Trumpists are trying to eliminate.

I think you're giving them way too much by calling them Conservatives. I'd call them reactionaries, rejecting all of human history and trying to retreat to a Hobbesian state of nature where life is nasty brutish and short, for most, except those with the biggest fists.

@MistyCee AOC may do great things in service of this country, but she needs a fair amount of seasoning before then.

As for labels, I use what they themselves do. Were it up to me, I'd call them the Elders of Gilead.
@Graylight Even the Elders of Gilead seemed to have more principles than those supporting Trumpism, alternate facts, etc, imo.

At least there, the authoritarianism and subjugation of some rights over others had a better justification.

I get so called "social conservatives," and "fiscal conservatives," and can respect them, even if I don't agree with them all the time.

But this alliance between them and others, to "own liberals", win at all costs, and destroy all of the norms and institutions that humanity has picked up, I really don't get.

It really seems to me to be regression to a most basic primitive state where might makes right.

For the record, NOT ALL sexual encounters are for the purposes of procreation and, not all people having sex are conservative minded, god fearing, flat earth believing, traditional minded Republicans.

Lastly, it’s incredibly rare for a woman to actually “want” to have an abortion (unless they have been raped).
Women usually have abortions for any one of about a thousand possible reasons. To take away that choice is wrong and incredibly narrow minded and backward thinking, but unfortunately that IS how conservative minded Republicans think.

Republicans have no shame. To them lying has become as easy as reciting the alphabet, or easier.

Sadly you painted the picture we see today in congress- party/power over country... at any cost with no accountability expected by the people.
They should have been asked “how would you have ruled if you were on the court in 1973 deciding Roe v. Wade?” That’s not a hypothetical.

as a congressman president biden thought it should stay a state issue
MarineBob · 56-60, M
Ashame. Congress doesn't want to touch it either.
Supreme court actually did what joe biden said should be done and give it to the states where it belongs

@MarineBob Again, Bob, this doesn't belong in the courts. Women have already been granted equal rights under the US Constitution. The matter was settled 250 years ago.

This is about suppression through exclusion. I honestly would think you'd understand that, given your avatar.

@Graylight honestly I agree with you but the taxpayers shouldn't have to foot the bill, in cases of rape and incest the prosecutors should fully prosecute the cases and law enforcement isn't to close a case until it's been settled and signed off on by a judge
Graylight · 51-55, F
@MarineBob Taxpayers foot the bill for the entire country, Bob. It's how we run; it's our coffers. We trade and do global business, but tax money is the flour and water of our constitution. It's used right now every day for prosecution and justice. But if we're talking about taxpayer dollars, let's look at the millions spent on phone court cases for election fraud, or the monies used to investigate Trump's business dealings and international shenanigans. Or how bout the nearly $3 billion the Jan 6 panel is projected to cost? How about taxpayer funded carriers and fighter jets sitting in desert overflow compounds because a local politician promised fools' gold?

Taxpayers make this country run and whether or not someone like the principle for which they're being used is not a deciding factor. We get authoritarian regimes like that, and if you want to see that happening in real time, take a jaunt down to TX or FL.
Whatever! Minority rule is forever, you're prisoners.

@Roundandroundwego Purdy much. 😕
