And this is where the Dems trip up

Some democrats are calling on Congress for clarification that conservative Supreme Court justices mislead the public when they said they didn't plan to touch Roe v. Wade. They want censure or penalty of some kind.

And this is where we as a party utterly, spectacularly lose the plot. "I promise; I'll pull out; I'm not planning on children; I plan to live in Ohio all my life; the check is in the mail." These are all lies we tell. When you ask someone to make a promise of the future on shifting sand, you cannot trust the response; it's not even fair. Of course they said what they had to to get the job. Who here hasn't?

Conservatives are the party of hypocrites. They lie, they're transparent about it, they're contradictory and not to be trusted. They don't care. They are not going to be shamed. They are not going to see the error of their ways because we pointed it out to them. Surely there are bigger issues at hand.

Sighs.

First of all, its pretty frigging ridiculous that anyone could possibly believe that Roe wouldn't be "touched." I don't think even Collins or Murkowski is that stupid, tbh, and, IMO, AOC is taking a cheap shot with this crap.

Second, why the hell are you calling these folks "Conservatives" when they're demonstrably trying to rip apart basic principles like honesty, i.e., not bearing false witness, etc, which have kind of been the foundation of humans and primates before that being able to survive against predators with bigger teeth and claws.

Sure, we all lie and we were individual organisms before we become social animals, but over millions of years, we learned to cooperate by at least selectively telling the truth on matters of common concern, and that is what these so called "Conservative"/Trumpists are trying to eliminate.

I think you're giving them way too much by calling them Conservatives. I'd call them reactionaries, rejecting all of human history and trying to retreat to a Hobbesian state of nature where life is nasty brutish and short, for most, except those with the biggest fists.

@MistyCee AOC may do great things in service of this country, but she needs a fair amount of seasoning before then.

As for labels, I use what they themselves do. Were it up to me, I'd call them the Elders of Gilead.
@Graylight Even the Elders of Gilead seemed to have more principles than those supporting Trumpism, alternate facts, etc, imo.

At least there, the authoritarianism and subjugation of some rights over others had a better justification.

I get so called "social conservatives," and "fiscal conservatives," and can respect them, even if I don't agree with them all the time.

But this alliance between them and others, to "own liberals", win at all costs, and destroy all of the norms and institutions that humanity has picked up, I really don't get.

It really seems to me to be regression to a most basic primitive state where might makes right.
