Will GOP opponents do that?
I think their strategy will be to take some of his policies and rhetoric but ignore Trump whenever possible and hope he fights a weak campaign due to his slight cognitive decline. To attack him early risks being afflicted by the stigmata of RINOism.
It's a smart strategy because nobody else has Trump's ex-factor or his hold on the Republican base. If Trump is going to lose, it will be by him fighting a war of attrition with 'moderate' Republicans and another crazy but charismatic figure to step in. Sad, but trust, I think.

@Elessar Yep. That is why he is the second favourite.

You expect a bnunch of pompous narcissists like Ron DeSantis, Chris Christie, Mike Pompeo and Ted Cruz to ignore Trump, sit back and let him win the nomination without a fight?
Imagine Trump as a fox. The orange hair will help. And his Republican opponents in 2024 as a scorpion.
They WILL attack him. It's in their nature.
And while Trump will retain the loyalty of most of his cultist followers, the GOP as a whole will suffer tremendously with independents. That will help enable Biden to win a thumping victory in 2024 with Democrat majorities in the Senate and House. The Republicans will have to have a cleansing, ridding themselves of Trumpets and nominate someone in 2028 that isn't tainted by the Kool-aid.

Imagine Trump as a fox. The orange hair will help. And his Republican opponents in 2024 as a scorpion.
A scorpion was walking along the bank of a river, wondering how to get to the other side. Suddenly he saw a fox. He asked the fox to take him on his back across the river. The fox said, "No, if I do that you'll sting me, and I'll drown." The scorpion assured him, "If I did that, we'd both drown." So the fox thought about it and finally agreed. So the scorpion climbed up on his back, and the fox began to swim. But halfway across the river, the scorpion stung him. As the poison filled his veins, the fox turned to the scorpion and said, "why did you do that? Now you'll drown too." "I couldn't help it," said the scorpion. "It's my nature."
They WILL attack him. It's in their nature.

@beckyromero I stand by what I said. Narcissists understand political strategy and that is one of the main lessons from the Trump era.
Yeah, I'm not expecting that's going to happen anytime soon.
With a tiny handful of exceptions, the GOP is still waiting for someone else to get rid of Trump.
I'd love if if someone did, but realistically, I think announcing won't create instant GOP competition.

Trump will ignore sound political advice and instead announce sooner than later in a lame attempt tp chanmge the narrative - which will be indictments, possibly and very likely including him. He will try to paint the indictments as political rather than criminal. And he will fail. And the fewremaining Republicans who never drank the Kool-aid and the others that think they can inherit his followers will pile on.

....but will his ego let him have the possibility of having his ass kicked twice????

I don't know, the Republicans are pretty cucked. They'll all probably just bend over and let Trump be the nominee.

They won't though. And I think you're right. He will be announcing his run soon.
room101 · 51-55, M
Yeah, I just don't see that happening. I think that he may very well run for 2024 but doubt very much that any GOP'ers will attack him.
Too many of them still see him as their best chance for winning. Anything🤦♂️

He will use the idea that his being a candidate makes him ripe for attack. He uses it now, but if he is running, he maybe can use it in court too.
