I think their strategy will be to take some of his policies and rhetoric but ignore Trump whenever possible and hope he fights a weak campaign due to his slight cognitive decline. To attack him early risks being afflicted by the stigmata of RINOism.
It's a smart strategy because nobody else has Trump's ex-factor or his hold on the Republican base. If Trump is going to lose, it will be by him fighting a war of attrition with 'moderate' Republicans and another crazy but charismatic figure to step in. Sad, but trust, I think.

Imagine Trump as a fox. The orange hair will help. And his Republican opponents in 2024 as a scorpion.
They WILL attack him. It's in their nature.
And while Trump will retain the loyalty of most of his cultist followers, the GOP as a whole will suffer tremendously with independents. That will help enable Biden to win a thumping victory in 2024 with Democrat majorities in the Senate and House. The Republicans will have to have a cleansing, ridding themselves of Trumpets and nominate someone in 2028 that isn't tainted by the Kool-aid.

@beckyromero I stand by what I said. Narcissists understand political strategy and that is one of the main lessons from the Trump era.
