I saw a great quote as to how Brexiteers are seeing things at the moment:
"They force you off a cliff, and then inquire politely why you didn't pack a parachute". Says it all really.

@SW-User Well that was Boris' plan.. Sadly covid threw a spanner in his works, or he would be retired with his pension and half a dozen "city" directorships by now..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman No, I think he threw a spanner in his own works by relentlessly promoting Brexit even though he had been an avid supporter of the EU just the previous year when he was mayor of London.
There is little doubt, in my mind, that he expected Remain to triumph by the smallest of margins, which would have allowed him to position himself as "the voice of the left-behind masses" in time to take over from David Cameron in 2020. Covid may still have happened, but he wouldn't have had to deal with the extra red-tape, Northern Ireland, etc. He may still have had friends and allies.
But he miscalculated... You've probably seen this but it's hilarious and so true. (Hitler plays the part of Boris).

@SW-User I accept your premise, admitting my distance from the local news there gives me a shortage of detail. Although a school chum of Camerons at Eton, I understood Boris was never considered the sharpest tool in the set, therefore not long term leadership material. But rather, someone you sent in the do something unpopular and be blamed for it after he left.😷
@SW-User
Yeah he absolutely hitched his horse to the Brexit wagon in order to wrest power from Cameron. You might be right that he never expected it to happen.

@Pikachu I think if you saw his face a few hours after the result you would know that he did not expect it. Even Farage did not expect it. It's also telling that Boris spent the next couple of years keeping a very low profile...
@SW-User
Given how the brexiteers scrambled to come up with a legitimate plan after they won, i'd say you're right.

@Pikachu Sadly yes. The trouble is most people didn't want to hear that it was going to be a shitshow. Still, Boris will be on his way out, the Conservatives will probably be on their way out, and I can see the UK negotiating some sort of entry into the single market again (though not the EU itself)
