How should inflation and greed be combated?

The USDOJ needs to crack down on antitrust laws and wage 1980 AT&T style break-ups across the fortune 500. With forcwd removal of executives and board members of brocken up companies.

That would free up the market as we are in dier lacking of a "free market"

And some of that might work in a text book in a centralized economy. Truth is you cant combat inflation with a Western style Government. "Freedom" wont allow it. And you cant do it with an American economy because the Government is working for the corporations, not the people.. So there are no checks and balances..😷

@Sadwithasmile But thats what makes it inflation.. I know this is a big idea to get our head around right now. But Money is a fiction. Just like Cryto currencies. But we all agree to use it and that makes it work. The important fact is that it takes so many hours labour to buy a loaf of bread, a liter of milk or a new car.. We just use money to express that..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman oh I understand completely. We were taught that in economics. But we need money, because currently it’s our best possible form of value. Gold is too hard to transport and store, it is also too expensive to produce. Paper money is currently our best form of value.

@Sadwithasmile Exactly.. But internally in a nation (say America, but it applies anyplace) inflation doesnt count as long as you still only have to work the same number of hours and the bills get paid. Where it comes unstuck is when the nation has to import goods and services to keep the market going. Then those values are tested against different economies and thw amout of hours you have to put in to get an imported TV, car or bottle of Champagne puts a stress on the economy and something gets out of balance. This complicates matter. as either the price to the consumer goes up. or the government does something to lower the price, like a subsidy. and the nation pays the difference and "borrows" it. 😷

I agree. The market needs more competition to bring down prices.

@hippyjoe1955 you can too have your own political facts!

@Changeisgonnacome Statements of fact. Go look up your history. I remember well the 20% interest rates as the governments got a handle on inflation in the 80s. This isn't my first rodeo. I have seen this kind of insane inflation before. Both times it was because of government printing huge amounts of money based on nothing more that political expedience. If you note I am not being partizan and blame both parties for their folly. Sadly for the democrats both major inflation spikes happened when they were in power. Was it their fault? Not entirely but they didn't do anything to stop the inflation. They did however kill the economy both times. Remember the gas rationing when Carter was president. I do.

Wishful thinking but I don’t know if you noticed but technology tends to move at a much faster rate than any government decreed law change. Back in the late 90s the DOJ tried to break up the Microsoft monopoly to try and encourage some form of competition on the PC OS and web browser market. Let’s just say that they failed miserably in their attempt but then move past 2000 and some random company came up with a small white portable music device that turned various industries upside down.

For the record we have been in a free market for years. A free market just means that not all companies are equal.

Big companies buy up smaller companies and either improve them or take out the best bits then spit the rest out on a regular basis right now.

If customers like a companies product they tend to buy lots of it and the company succeeds. If it’s shit customers don’t buy it.

End capitalism?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Inflation is a product of Government spending money they don't have and simply printing more money to cover it up. It has nothing to do with companies.
Sadwithasmile · 22-25, M
@hippyjoe1955 what kind of rubbish is that?

Price gouging could end yesterday if Congress took every penny as tax.
