Student loan debt forgiveness

My son works for a guy who owns a medium sized company (Electrician) and he was saying he took out a hundred thousand dollar loan to buy a few trucks and expand his business, he is still paying the loan off and thinks it would be awesome if his loan was forgiven. He didn't go to college so he has no student debt, but he still has debt... what do you think?

My roommate and I both have student loans. She finished her education around $60 in debt. I ended up dropping out because my loans were getting larger than I was comfortable with. Neither of us think this loan forgiveness is a good idea.

It's not about helping the country, or the next generation, or however they are trying to spin it. If it were, they would be addressing the actual problems of skyrocketing education costs, predatory lending, and the racial disparity in the lending system. This was nothing more than a vote grab when biden was running for office and is once again a vote grab with the midterms approaching.

If they're interested in helping people out, setting the interest rate to 0% is a great place to start.

@SooperSarah addressing accessibility and cost of education is definitely going to be far more effective than loan forgiveness.

I'm not against loan forgiveness, but I definitely believe it is putting the cart before the horse. If you solve the high education costs then loan forgiveness becomes a one time corrective action. If you just forgive, the problem is just going to build back up to where it is now and we'll be in the same situation.

Now, the forgiveness that has already been done for public workers definitely needs to be done. They were promised that and then the government did not uphold it's end of the deal. That definitely needs to be squared up. Lot of people do not understand that has only been for qualified public employees though.
