To a fairly good approximation the thing that they have most in common is that they commit their crimes in the US.
If someone tells me that there has been another one my first thought is not to ask where in my home country this awful thing has happened, but to shake my head sorrowfully and assume that it has happened yet again in the US.

They kill or wound more than 4. If a shooting occurs involving less than 4 bring shot whether lethal or not, it’s not going into a “mass shooting” category for public consumption which catches people’s attention as does the term, “ massacre” which does not necessarily involve fire arms.
Narcissism. Entitlement. Plenty of shootings have had no political component whatsoever, at least from the shooter’s perspective. But generally a lone person believes he or she (usually he) is entitled to something specific and somehow killing other people is the answer. 😞
