Given that x percent of the US population apparently believes that they have been abducted by aliens surely a Congressional hearing is long overdue.

Of course the question is what exactly will they be discussing. I doubt that it will be a discussion of the question of why a quite astonishing number of people believe the most outrageous drivel without a shred of evidence.
@ninalanyon I think that from what I saw on the news, they're going to treat these unidentified flying objects as complete unknowns. We don't know for a fact that they are coming from another planet, and we don't know for a fact that they aren't. What we do need to know is, are they a threat?
That seems rather unlikely. Unless the laws of physics can be subverted somehow, an interstellar invasion is surely a bit hard to pull off. Similarly, if they are in fact terrestrial, then any source of high tech craft would surely have been discovered by now.
