Right because voting really hard is how every right was won :) A nice man in a suit just gave it to people.
@CountScrofula Voting is not the only thing we need to do, but it's the most important thing.
Canvass, protest, debunk lies, and educate people. But if you don't vote, all of that means nothing.

@BohemianBoo Vote for Joe Biden. Abortion rights start collapsing around the country. Vote for Democrats in the midterms, they'll get it right this time!

Every single right the American people have won was won through grassroots organizing, mass protest movement, and on many occasions violence. Womens' suffrage, labour rights, civil rights, gay rights, you name it.

You think Woodrow Wilson was a feminist? The 19th amendment was signed because the alternative was intolerable. Right now people are saying "Vote Democrat some more they'll get it right this time I promise" when they should be literally burning down the Supreme Court building and blocking every road in America.
@CountScrofula If Hillary won, this wouldn't have happened because she would have put Democrats on the SCOTUS. This is a perfect example of how stupid bothsidesism is when it comes to the two parties.

@BohemianBoo no, he's right. Mass protest works better. You know how Iceland got equal rights for women? Women did a massive general strike and became ungovernable. That forced Icelandic lawmakers to give equal rights to women.
Grassroots protests. Power to the people with no delay.

@BohemianBoo Or if Ruth Bader Ginsberg hadn't died when she did we wouldn't be in this mess either.

Like don't you think its weird that the permanent rights of every American citizens were entirely dependant upon the timing of an 87 year old woman's death? That is a BROKEN system.
@basilfawlty89 I'm all for protesting and strikes, but voting is still the most important thing.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@BohemianBoo it's not. It's thanks to protesting Anarchists that you got an eight hour working day with weekends off.
@CountScrofula Yeah, she really should have retired under Obama.

We can work on fixing the system while still using the current system as best we can. I think the electoral college should be eliminated, but in the meantime, we need to deal with it.
@basilfawlty89 Yeah, but it didn't happen overnight. The protesters basically forced politicians to move to the Left on the issue, much like today we've forced the Democrats to move on social issues.
If we want something like UBI, we need to protest, but we also need to have Democrats in power. The idea that we could force the Republicans to do something like that isn't just wrong, but it ignores the fact that the GOP is currently trying to overturn Democracy as a whole.

And again, if Hillary won, we wouldn't be in the midst of abortion being banned.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@BohemianBoo the main problem with the Democratic Party is they try to continually find middle ground with the Republicans. While this may sound good in theory, the Republican party moves further right every time. So at this point it's a center right to right wing party fighting against a far right party.
@basilfawlty89 Which is why we need to keep fighting to push the Democrats to the Left, just like Leftists have been doing throughout history.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@BohemianBoo look I'm with you in some ways. If I lived in America, I'd probably vote Democrat just to keep crap like Trump and DeSantis out of office, but I don't think that voting really makes such a big difference. There are promising factions in the Democratic Party, like the DSA.
@basilfawlty89 America always does better under Democrats. Not great, but better. So there is definitely a difference between the parties.
I'm a Socialist, so I don't agree with the Democrats either, but at least the Democrats believe in Democracy. The Republicans are literal Fascists trying to make Trump a dictator.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@BohemianBoo there I do definitely agree with you.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@BohemianBoo the Democrats have been moving steadily right economically. They basically normalize all the economic moves the Republicans make. Democrats have been better socially. And voting is important. Voting is the stop gap that gives us Biden instead of Trump.

To get the New Deal, we need mass protests. Voting is important because if the right is in charge they will probably just make it okay to mow down protesters. But "the left" doesn't have enough political power to make reforms through voting alone. We need organizing. We need protests. We need people trying to get into local and state office.

@basilfawlty89 It’s not a big deal for guys. We don’t get pregnant. If you are a woman and probably 50% of Americans are, then it’s a Big issue. Obviously Republican women won’t give a shit about it because Republican men own their wives uteruses but Democratic women will.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@justanothername a lot of Republican women care, they just can't talk about it because they will pay huge social costs for stepping out of line.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@ViciDraco Yup, because their uterus’s are owned/controlled by their angry white husbands.
@BohemianBoo Hillary did win, but the electoral college stole the presidency from her.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@independentone winning the presidency has always been about the electoral college and not the popular vote. That's not a steal, it's just a bad system. Or in the best case a system designed for problems that are not very relevant anymore
