How is it possible that 77% of republican voters are still convinced the 2020 election was stolen?

My folks were convinced because my step mother's cousin had a friend who worked in the building where they were hiding the real ballots in Tennessee before the bomb blew up to destroy the evidence and that friend said it was because it would show the election was wrong. And my step mother's cousin wouldn't lie to her and her cousin's friend also has to be more trustworthy than the establishment.

People literally lie to the faces of a few people confidently enough that they believe it wholeheartedly. And then those people tell the people they know with absolute confidence that it is the truth. And the fiction then begins spreading rapidly.

I love my step mother, but she will believe just about any story that comes out of her family in Tennessee. She was once trying to tell me that the government was air dropping venomous snakes into the mountains that were crossbreeding with native snakes and creating deadly hybrids. And no amount of factual information I could present, even down to explaining the science behind why that was not a thing, would convince her otherwise. Because "these people saw it with their own eyes".

@ViciDraco Why would they even think up this nonsense? Trump took Tennessee by more than 20 points. What would the “real ballots” have possibly shown? And why would they have been in an AT&T building?

@OggggO got me. My step mother wasn't even a trump voter. But she's surrounded by enough of them that she believes it just from being in that echo chamber.

The right wing propagandists are very good at marching lock-step on a narrative. Just look at the right wing nuts here and how reliably and in unison they have adopted the Democrats are pedophiles narrative. You would almost think they were paid shills with the display of synchronization they have.

That kind of social pressure is shown to work extremely well in conditioning behaviors. Like the experiments when people are in a waiting room and everyone stands up and sits down together in unison. People start copying not knowing what the hell is going on.

@ViciDraco It certainly worked in Nazi Germany with antisemitic propaganda.
