Put Putin on trial.

In light of the recent atrocities and the apparent inability , or reluctance , of the UN to take meaningful action against Russia , there are growing calls for an international tribunal to try Putin for the crime of aggression. (Something the ICC cannot try him for without a Security Council referral , which Russia would obviously veto.)

Their aim is to try and recreate something like the Nuremberg Trials. Not sure if this is a starter or not , but there is a petition which has been launched to try and give it legs.

Oh look... the russian shills are suddenly back!

They disappeared when russia ran away from Kyiv, and ever since the war crimes of the russian barbarians have begun to be discovered they’ve been hiding in the shadows.

Now that their murderous coward of a master has come under attack, they’re suddenly very vocal.

Good little poodles, but there are some mothers in Bucha who would like a word with you...

First need to put Bush, Obama and Blair on trail. Then we can think of Putin. 😊

@SW-User + Hillary Clinton
Remind me again... how many weapons of mass destruction were found in Afghanistan???

It's not like the west doesn't have blood on its own hands here - when do we try those who were responsible for that war, too???
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@HootyTheNightOwl
How can you point your finger at Putin and say "You're wrong" - when you can't hold your own hands up and take accountability for the wrongs that you did???
Quite easily. The two things are quite separate. Each can be dealt with separately.
@ninalanyon Then, why hasn't this happened???

Oh, yeah, because we're too busy telling the guy next door that his cess pit stinks...
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@HootyTheNightOwl Well, firstly I didn't personally do any of the things you seem to be accusing us all of doing, And secondly I argued against a lot of the things and people you mention at the time they were doing them. I'm not entirely sure what you are trying to achieve by continually repeatedly restating the obvious and acknowledged facts of the failings of Western leaders.
You seem to be arguing that because we are less than perfect that we cannot expect any improvement from anyone. Is it meant to be some kind of analogue of Christ's injunction "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"? Perhaps you could explain how your way of doing things will result in a better outcome for the world than the way being argued for by almost everyone else here.

There's one point though: Nuremberg was possible b/c the 3rd Reich was totally destroyed, it did not exist anymore when the Trial began. Hitler and Himmler did not have nukes, that's why it was possible. 😐
Elessar · 26-30, M
@helenS Exactly
helenS · 36-40, F
@Elessar Russia is the only country on the planet that can attack the USA catastrophically (China can't, according to the US department of defense). As a result, Russia cannot be defeated by armed forces, but it may be possible to ruin their economy to such an extent that they are no longer capable of waging another war. But we must clearly see what that would imply. We must clearly realize that, for Russia, it's a question of "to be or not to be". They will do everything to survive. Even a famine in Russia with millions starving and dying would not stop them.

I detest putin but convicting him of anything won't change what's going on
ididntknow · 51-55, M
@tindrummer This might help explain what’s going on, it’s on YouTube or rumble
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
Henry Kissinger really, really needs to answer to a judge.
@Crazywaterspring he absolutely does but what does that have to do with this comment?
Ok let me take a leak first

For those interested, this is a longer post about what I think the point should be.

https://similarworlds.com/politics/4289504-What-about-western-imperialism-A-number-of-people

The TLDR is that it's about both, not either/or.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@RodionRomanovitch A lot depends on China's stance. They kind of want Russia as an ally and don't like the west. They don't care about Russia that much though.
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
@Burnley123 It would only take an abstention , but even that might be a stretch.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@RodionRomanovitch Time will tell. I am very much against Putin and NATO also.

I support the Ukrainian people and I think their allegiance with NATO is entirely justified. I would do the same if I was them.
What about George W Bush.

ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@ididntknow In this case a picture is definitely not worth a thousand words. What point are you trying to make?
ididntknow · 51-55, M
@ninalanyon alThe point is, that’s a very interesting video on YouTube or rumble, about the war in Ukraine
SW-User
Why doesn’t someone assassinate him?
ididntknow · 51-55, M
@SW-User who ? Zelensky ?
SW-User
@ididntknow no Putin

Good luck serving the subpoena. Also, good luck getting the UN to do something useful, given that Russia is a permanent member of the Security Council.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@redredred Nothing is constant except change
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Got to catch him first, which doesn't seem likely to happen. So any trial would be in absentia, like the one finding Bush and Cheney guilty of war crimes.
ididntknow · 51-55, M
This is on YouTube, if anyone is interested, it’s quite a insight to what is happening Ukraine
Ferric67 · M
He's committing war crimes the instead he decided to invade another country
I'd rather he was taken out but hey
