”Liberals are indoctrinated!”

Why is any information that contradicts the conservative world view automatically called “liberal indoctrination through education”?

The world of academics has always been in flux and in conflict with the more conservative and established ways of understanding reality. We keep learning new things from heliocentricity to sexuality to evolution to… Just because a conservative doesn’t agree with new information doesn’t mean something nefarious is at work. Academics are always looking for more and better information, whereas conservatism is deeply rooted in tradition.

Altering education due to perceived indoctrination is what’s going to lead to actual indoctrination. If conservatives want education to be more “patriotic”, then they’re pro-indoctrination. They just want to make sure their indoctrination justifies and validates the way they believe and think.

Encouraging critical thought, development of the learning process and the exploration of ideas, concepts and known works are the hallmarks of higher education. Conservatives don't know that because they lack it. No judgment there, but to blindly condemn that which one doesn't understand is just willful ignorance.

Teaching only that part of history you find palatable. Instituting mandatory government fealty every morning. Teaching children that belonging to any social or familial group not ordained by the party is intolerable. Allowing only those books, materials and topics deemed unsuitable by the party: That's indoctrination.

@Doomflower Libraries are liberal institutions, is that why they are so endangered these days? Hard to complete with the ones who know everything already
Funny that. If liberals are "indoctrinated" through education, the only thing to conclude is that conservatives must be indoctrinated through ignorance and illiteracy.

Apparently they’re finally admitting that they’re anti-education, pro-superstition and pro blind stupidity.

@bijouxbroussard I can't recommend this quick read enough. It may be all decked out in red, white and blue, but it's got Dark Ages written all over it.

@bijouxbroussard If things keep going as planned we are all feudal serfs once again with no power hope or future, our lives are planned out for us by higher forces and we have no right to change the rules. We serve power or we die.

Kinda like that now actually

Agree! And I always love the 'patriotic" argument. In a free country with democracy, wouldn't patriotic being recognized and accepting opinions and views different from our own? Only fascist and communist dictatorships insist everyone must believe the same thing!

Because what they believe is right and everything else is wrong ... Selective listening

@bijouxbroussard The Liberal Party in Australia is the major party in the current Coalition Government and could be described as Centre Right. However the Labour Party in Australia is probably more aligned with American Liberal ethos than the Liberals here.
@KiwiBird Yes, a friend from OZ was explaining that to me. Is New Zealand similar ?
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
@bijouxbroussard Yes although the conservative party there is called National not Liberal. The current government there is currently Labour.

The only path to national unity is through our shared identity as Americans. That is why it is so urgent that we finally restore patriotic education to our schools. Under our leadership, the National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded a grant to support the development of a pro-American curriculum that celebrates the truth about our nation’s great history.

And we don't want to stifle anything. We certainly don't want to stifle free speech, but that's no longer free speech. See, I don't think that the mainstream media is free speech either because it's so crooked. It's so dishonest. So to me, free speech is not when you see something good and then you purposely write bad. To me, that's a very dangerous speech, and you become angry at it. But that's not free speech.

@Kwek00 Ah, the ol' moving the goalposts game. A true classic.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Graylight Also a 1st amendment violation... but who cares about what is actually in the constitution when you can build up an entire movement that is protecting a document that they never read.
Look at Harvard, 100 years ago it championed a wholesome family, today after Rothschild's Darwinisim has seeped into academics woman have no gender and transvestites are championed by the Unions most entrusted University, everything is backwards.

There is no nuance in conversation nowadays. As soon as you share a single opinion with someone, they automatically slot you into a preconceived category - they’ll assume they know everything about you, and are now free to judge you accordingly.

It’s hard to find people willing to have open, honest conversation without feeling the need to stick labels on you.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@SW-User But - and this a a really fun game - next time you find yourself talking to one of these people (my family came pre-installed with one), ask them to define in clear language any one of those terms. The linguistic gymnastics are dizzying.
Paladin · 56-60, M
Actually, your title should be liberals and conservatives are indoctrinated. Both sides can see it in the other side, but refuse to see it in their team.

Education is supposed to reflect the world it currently exists within, it is progressive by nature.

@BigGuy2 But the right has their extremists just as the left does.
One thing that both the left and the right do is that they will find one horrible example from the other side, and attribute that behavior to the entire left/right
Paladin · 56-60, M
@BigGuy2 And on a side note, I do appreciate your comments. It's a rare thing to be able to discuss politics without it devolving into mud slinging nastiness.👍

@Paladin i agree, i'm not stupid enough to see the Right as 'whiter than white' {i'm not being racist there} ... did you know, legislation over here, Left leaning ideology is not deemed as a problem
