Trans women in sports, are we ok with that? It seems like trans women are dominating whatever women's sport they enter.

I don't care what anti-trans people have to say on this subject.
I'm interested in hearing from other people who generally support transgender rights.

Is it fair for a person who has undergone male puberty to compete against biological women?

It seems wildly unfair.
@Human1000

But how unfair is it? Certainly the instances where trans women win make news...but how common is that actually?
Human1000 · 51-55, M
@Pikachu If cheating is rare I don’t think it should be ignored. I don’t think it’s relevant, especially to the second place athlete.
@Human1000

Well i mean how common is it that a trans woman wins?
Is it actually common to the point where we should call it cheating or is it just another athlete winning which is only remarked upon because they are transgender?
Human1000 · 51-55, M
@Pikachu If you don’t think a male body has inherent advantages then we are at an impasse.
@Human1000

Well let's not be at an impasse. Let's try to find out what the actual data is.
Not just the news stories of a trans woman winning in a woman's sport.
What does the data show?

@Human1000 Are tall people cheating at swimming by being tall?
Human1000 · 51-55, M
@Pikachu Sexual dimorphism is enough. If you aren’t going to apply common sense, so be it. The only way to be consistent is to argue there should be no male v female sports, just varsity v junior.
Human1000 · 51-55, M
@Human1000
oh, are you arguing that "common sense" or "I reckon" is the way we know if something is scientifically verified?
Human1000 · 51-55, M
@Pikachu If you aren’t going to recognize sexual dimorphism provides an advantage to men, then not much more to discuss.
@Human1000

Why are you so eager to rely on fallible intuition and so afraid to investigate the data?
Human1000 · 51-55, M
@Pikachu So, you don’t recognize sexual dimorphism. Understood.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Human1000 You're shifting the goalposts though. Pikachu was asking about trans women having an advantage on cis women, not men having an advantage on women. Those are two completely separate questions.
@Human1000

No i do....you did read the original post, did you not?
I'm just not pretending that i know the answer without actually looking into it.
I'm not trying to dismiss an alternate conclusion based on no research.

...are you happy to do that?
Human1000 · 51-55, M
@BlueVeins If I moved a goal post you are giving me too much credit, I assure you.
Human1000 · 51-55, M
@Pikachu I am happy to apply what I know from walking down the street, going to the gym, watching the WNBA, or track and field.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Human1000 a'ight legit i think this might just be confusion. It's obviously true that men have an advantage in most sports over women. And if a biological man identifies as a woman and competes with women, that obviously won't put 'er on a level playing field with them. But science has shown that going on hormone replacement therapy reduces physical strength in transgender women, which puts them in the general ballpark of a level playing field with cisgender women after a couple years. However, there's reasonable debate as to exactly how much of an advantage remains and in what context. Here's a helpful source on the subject:

https://www.dw.com/en/fact-check-do-trans-athletes-have-an-advantage-in-elite-sport/a-58583988

I'd also like to add that the study cited doesn't take hormone blockers into account, which would (to my understanding) negate the advantage of having a larger frame.
@Human1000

So you don't recognize the importance of statistical analysis over anecdotal experience. Understood.
Human1000 · 51-55, M
@Pikachu @BlueVeins Your hearts are in the right place, and we shan’t convince the other, but I appreciate the dialog. Off to dinner…have a great night!
@Human1000
I don't think you're being malicious, but i also think you're going on your gut rather than actually looking into it.
Enjoy your dinner!
