Why do conservatives suddenly love Putin and hate America?

There may have been a time when Putin was considered shrewd and capable (neither of which has anything to do with virtue) or skillfully manipulative. This seems less the case presently.
The current administration can be blamed for a too little, too late response to what should have been predictable.
Remember, it was Obama who thought the cold war was over and ridiculed Romney during their presidential debates. M.R. is getting his vindication now.
