Why do we play it at all?

Florida’s GOP senators are attempting to fix a problem that doesn’t exist (again) by requiring the national anthem to be played before professional sporting events.

In Florida, it's already played before all professional sporting events. But let's mandate it, and then we can come up with a cool hand salute everyone has to do...

Well, my opinion is we play the National Anthem and fly the American Flag to respect all the lives lost defending the country.
Simple respect.
@Teslin Yeah, but at a trout fishing competition?

@LordShadowfire Why not?
No fisherman ever gave their life defending their country?

@Teslin I'll remember that the next time I see that sexy trucker silhouette decal in a flag print or happen by a red, white and blue resin armadillo at a Texas roadstop.

@Graylight Yes, I see where that relates to our veterans

@swirlie Obviously yes.
Have you ever heard of Hitler, just to name 1?
I am not wasting any more of my time on this.
@Teslin Hitler was happily taking over Europe when the United States intervened. He did not attempt to invade us.

@swirlie Where was Canada?

Again, this is a post about the National Anthem and the respect that all soldiers deserve.

And then you derailed it by saying they defended America in World War II. We're asking when exactly it was that Germany tried to invade America.

@LordShadowfire Hmmmm, I am pretty sure Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 ? An ally of Germany in WWII.
Maybe I am wrong, I am not a historian?
@Teslin First of all, the Nazis would never have been allies with the Japanese. At least not for very long.

But you're right. I was forgetting the Japanese attacked on American soil.

@LordShadowfire Maybe I mis-spoke when I said "defending".
