DirecTV Removes Conservative News Network in Blow to Free Speech

"The largest satellite provider in the United States said late Friday it will drop One America News, a move that could financially cripple the rightwing TV network known for fueling conspiracy theories about the 2020 election.

The announcement by DirecTV, which is 70% owned by AT&T, comes three months after a Reuters investigation revealed that OAN’s founder testified that AT&T inspired him to create the network. Court testimony also showed that OAN receives nearly all of its revenue from DirecTV."

We canceled DirecTV shortly after AT&T bought them.
DirecTV was floundering then.
A huge wave of cancellations I'm sure hurt further.
The left just doesn't seem to care about how bad they suck
from Biden to DirecTV and the NBA - all very unpopular,

@Budwick satellite companies have lost across the board. It has nothing to do with the left, or Biden or at&t. It has to do with the multitude of other, less costly options.

So, the reason for canceling OAN?
Carla · 61-69, F
@Budwick their contract was not renewed. I feel certain it was simply a matter of revenue.
If oan was profitable, that contract would have been renewed.
You certainly don't see foxnews being cancelled.

That sounds pretty assumptiony to me.
By that standard CNN would be a news network instead of a propaganda outlet.
Carla · 61-69, F
@Budwick because why now?
If you think oan or fox news report factually, and aren't wrapped up in nonsensical conspiracy theories and right wingnut propaganda, I've given you way to much credit on the amount of intelligence I thought you possess.

@Carla
If oan was profitable, that contract would have been renewed
That does not make sense in the 'Land of the Left'.
Carla · 61-69, F
@Budwick the "land of the left" understands free market.
You know...profits outweigh everything. Everything.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@Carla Explain CNN constant loss of viewers and no change to format.
Carla · 61-69, F
@Budwick loss of viewers compared to highly watched happenings. You know, like a failed coup.
Or the constant news created by your revered ex leader.
Overall, their ratings are no worse nor better. Big news brings high ratings. Cnn, msnbc, fox news all bring in nationally recognized and profitable advertisers.
My pillow commercials just don't bring in the money.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@Carla My pillow commercials are not programming.
They are commercials, that PAY for programming.

Scandal-scarred CNN has seen its viewership nosedive by a staggering 90 percent both overall and in the critical demographics. Spin that!
Carla · 61-69, F
@Budwick 90%? Okay. Not a 90% reduction in viewership based on highly viewed big news stories? Yes bud. A reduction based on viewership during highly watched stories.
Get your story straight or no one will take you seriously.

Right...sponsors bring revenue. Programming brings sponsors. Bad programming, poor return from sponsors.
Spin that bud.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@Carla CNN has seen its viewership nosedive by a staggering 90 percent both overall and in the critical demographics. That's a common news story - quoted word for word. Try to keep up - you are already not taken seriously. You are what we call an agitator.
