DirecTV Removes Conservative News Network in Blow to Free Speech

"The largest satellite provider in the United States said late Friday it will drop One America News, a move that could financially cripple the rightwing TV network known for fueling conspiracy theories about the 2020 election.

The announcement by DirecTV, which is 70% owned by AT&T, comes three months after a Reuters investigation revealed that OAN’s founder testified that AT&T inspired him to create the network. Court testimony also showed that OAN receives nearly all of its revenue from DirecTV."

How is that a blow to "free speech."

Ever hear of this thing called "The Internet"?

What's stopping One America News from broadcasting on it?

@beckyromero why doesn’t everyone that post things on you tube, just post them on the internet instead ?

As you know, YouTube is on the internet.

But if a person or organization's content is rejected by YouTube, they are free to create their own website or blog.

If a cable network can't get providers to add them as a channel, that cable network can always put up a website and let their viewers get the same identical content that otherwise would have been on the cable network.

@beckyromero ok let’s take Down all the left wing propaganda down from you tube, it’s only fair

See, that's what you don't understand about free market capitalism.

You want it to be equal. If a company doesn't want to purchase a certain product and make it available in their stores (in this case, on THEIR cable network), you think the competition should be barred as well, to make it "fair."

All that equalization you want on the airwaves to me sounds like you want to bring back the fairness doctrine. Isn't that what conservatives railed against for years?

If that's what you really want, then for all the time FOX News covers Trump and his rallies, etc., equal time should be given to Never-Trumpers in the GOP, like Liz Cheney.

If Jeb Bush got the same amount of free air time Trump got in the GOP primaries, he might be into his second term in the White House right now.

Would you care to discuss talk radio shows?

Because the Fairness Doctrine you want to re-implement would apply there as well.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@beckyromero LOL, every time you left-wing nut job put anything on radio it fails miserable

Part of the problem is that talk radio tends to veer to the extremes, just as political activism tends to be.
