I don't really follow American politics anymore because its toxic af.

Saying that it is probably a really bad idea to run up on someone carrying an AR15 or whatever its was.

Additionally, I don't know how anyone could kill people and not be even slightly remorseful for it. Slightly sociopathic if you ask me.

I follow American politics closely because the US is 25 years or so ahead of Europe. Whatever happens in America is going to happen here as well, just delayed by some years.

"de te fabula narratur" = "about you the tale is told".
@helenS it doesn’t have to be a self fulfilling prophecy.

@Ozymandiaz I so hope you are right... errmmm… I mean correct.
TexChik · F
@Ozymandiaz in Europe people are not allowed to defend themselves and in some places even knives are banned 🤷🏻‍♀️
GerOttman · 61-69, M
@helenS interesting, I've often thought it was the other way around!
@TexChik But then there isn't a whole lot to defend yourself from in Europe. Most countries have a decent healthcare system that provides for people. Especially the mentally ill. Very few mass shootings despite a lot of countries having some high rates of gun ownership.

its not the guns. Its the culture.
helenS · 36-40, F
@GerOttman I think that's a myth. America has always been ahead of us. Culture, literature, music, democracy – it's always been "America first".
TexChik · F
@Ozymandiaz if that’s true , why are there so many rapes and murders?
@TexChik You got some credible source to back that up that claim?
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@helenS I think we have been sold that America is always ahead of us by their Government and media, as have their people.

If we, the rest of the world, do not learn from the mess America is at the moment, we deserve to follow them where they are.

Hopefully, we will be wiser, so we can help them out of their difficulties.

@helenS culture came from mother England and France centuries ago . The only thing that makes America different if capitalism and freedom ( via our constitution)
TexChik · F
@Zeusdelight right , avoid socialism and never trust the media
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@TexChik At the moment, look where those stereotypes have placed you. Are you stronger than you were 5 years, 10 years ago?
@TexChik Being doing a bit of digging into your rape and murder claim. So far all I can find is that the murder rate in the US is on average 3 times higher than in the EU. I will check the rape claim. I would advise you to do the same because it seems like someone has been gas lighting you.
helenS · 36-40, F
@TexChik that's a rather Eurocentric point of view, so I like it, because it tickles my vanity, but... essential elements of American culture do not derive from a European root. Jazz music comes to mind.

@TexChik
why are there so many rapes and murders?
A friend of mine from Los Angeles came to visit me two years ago. I live in the middle of nowhere, in a forest, essentially. At night I said to her, "hey come let's walk through the woods to the old deserted bridge, you will like that!"
And then she asked me if I have a gun, because we might get murdered or raped... 😏
TexChik · F
@Ozymandiaz well when you don’t read state run propaganda the murder rate in London surpassed that of New York last year .
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@TexChik Tell us your sources
TexChik · F
@helenS out in the woods I wouldn’t have much fear . But as a previous victim I am long since trained in self defense, and here in the US , I legally carry a concealed weapon .
helenS · 36-40, F
@TexChik Highest murder rate on the planet is in Midsomer, England, of course.
Ask DCI Barnaby if you don't believe me. 🤭
@TexChik What about the murder rate London v Chicago?
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@TexChik So you live your life in fear?
helenS · 36-40, F
@TexChik TexChik sorry I did not know (or I forgot) that you've been a victim of violence. I fully understand you need a gun to feel safe. Sorry again, please. 🌷
TexChik · F
@Zeusdelight I live in a state of preparedness. I will never be a victim again.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@TexChik I apologise. That was not a fair comment by me. I am sorry
TexChik · F
@helenS ptsd really demands me to be prepared. I am well trained and know the law …
