What was going on when Ronald Reagan said this that made this so important to be part of his campaign

where I got this on the Internet as a whole argument going back-and-forth about it. From one guys perspective and both sides of this. He brings up a lot of interesting things things I already know of course.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Actually it is quite similar to Goldwater's "Extremism in the pursuit of liberty is no vice. Moderation in the pursuit of justice no virtue." Inflammatory if read one way; arguably balanced with the qualifiers. Reagan of course was Goldwater's biggest campaigner and disciple.
@dancingtongue That is kind of what I meant. Several conservatives have put their own spin on essentially the same statement for decades now and not just in the US. Thatcher has said some things that line up with the same belief system too.
